I drive an 02' ZO6 so, I have no real yearning to drive a base or even a Z51 C6. I am however in total lust with the C6 ZO6. I plan on waiting a few years for the price to come down on the 06's, then I'll seriously start looking at one.
Is that why more than a half year later your avatar is still of a C5 and you're still regularly posting in the C5 forum. I'd say that's not only looking back, but actually never really leaving. Nothing wrong with that.
My avatar remains in honor of the friend that made it for me here on the forum. Additionally, avatars are what people use to recognize you on the forum. This is online identitiy and it is a means for people to quickly identify who posted what without having to read all the posts.
Posting means that I still have friends here and that I still feel I have something to contribute. I took a lot from the forum and I love to give back. There is a wealth of information and as many more new folks come into the C5 their is too much mis-information. I have volumes of documents, photos and old threads archived on my hard drives. If I can help one other person it helps me pay back the forum.
By "Not looking back" I simply meant not missing driving my C5. My C6 is an improvemnt over my C5 in every way and I knew that the minute I drove the C6. As I said, not for everyone but it certainly was for me.
Please C6 guys take no offense to this. I finally noticed the C6 was starting to grow on me. I went to the dealership grabbed the KEys to a 2007 C6 talk about some nice luxury ....Wo it was like driving a fast lexus. Now I said fast lexus because thats what it felt like was a fast luxury car.
I've driven 3 C6's so far (2 new ones and an owner let me drive his). IMO, the C6 is a tad smoother, a tad bit more comfortable than the C5. Ofcourse, new cars tend to feel that way anyway.
But I've owned 2 lexuses in 6 years and have driven every lexus model with the exception of the SUV's. Trust me, the C6 doesnt come close to the smoothness or luxury of any lexus, even the IS Model. And my previous GS300 at 58K miles when I sold it was more comfortable than the new C6. Ofcourse, the C6 isnt designed to either just like NO lexus will handle like the C6.
Road Comfort will always yield some when you have Superior handling. This is true even with the high performance/high priced Mercedes AMG models (E55 for ex.) which are probably the best combination of handling and luxury.
I've driven a couple C6's, they are nice. It's the styling that keeps me in my C5.
Definitely more refined than my C5...but, I like the look of the C5 better. However, my perspective will no doubtedly change once I have a Lemans Blue C6 Z06 in my garage.

I'm on the fence about doing mods on my C5 or waiting till used C6's get around $38000. I love the LS2, my 05 GTO felt alot stronger that my 04 C5 does! I would hope within a year i can find a used C6 with the mods i want for around $38000.

We all move on in in life in one way or another (job, home, etc...) and keep ties with previous co-workers and neighbors, etc. It's basically a human thing that many do. I don't think however I would ever return to visit an old co-worker at his company or an old friend in his neighborhood and say my new company / neighborhood "is an improvemnt over my old company / neighborhood in every way and I knew that the minute I left." without expecting a raised eyebrow or two.
Now if you are saying your particular C5 had lots of problems (like a particular job or house) which is why your C6 "is an improvement over (your) C5 in every way" then I might understand but by not clarifying that fact then it comes across as gloating. Just looking at it from a perspective you may have overlooked.
I have been considering selling my Z for a c6 only because I cant stand the pop up lights and the interior of the c6 is just much nicer. I will take a step back in power but lets face it a c6 has a 6.0 in it, it shouldnt be hard to make good #'s. I dont know what to do becuse i love my car but theres some areas I think the c5 could have been nicer.

Please reread my first post for clarity. I didn't gloat in any way. I've been coming here for four plus years. Anyone on this forum that knows me in this section or others would laugh at the thought. I have been nothing but helpful and complimentary on this forum since the beginning but more importantly even after I made my switch to the C6. You don't know me and really shouldn't judge me. If you think my post was gloating the only person who has the misunderstanding of my intent is you. The OP is comparing a stock C6 to a heavily modded 413ci C5 and stating that it feels like the C6 "lost it's muscle", excuse me but "well duh".
To your second point, Quite the contrary in fact, my C5 had zero problems. So what was it about it...my C5 was a '97 with nine year old seats, a nine year old suspension and a first generation LS1 with 345 hp from the factory. How could a tighter newer more powerful car not be an improvement in those areas? Reread my second post. I specifically stated that my C6 was an improvement to me over my C5.
To your analogy; I have visited previous jobs and made mention that my new job was "great" or that I was happy when asked. Is that gloating? If you choose to have issues and want to generalize my statements to a generation of Corvettes (something I've never done nor would ever do) there is little I can do to dissuade you but don't for one minute publicly chastise me for it. I'm a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum and an appointed ambassador for the museum. Trust me, I didn't do all that just to celebrate the C6. Corvettes and the Corvette lifestyle have been around a lot longer than our cars and It's my goal to make sure it stays that way. Trust me, If I were that snobbish I'd stay in the C6 section. If you choose to take further issue with me you are welcome to PM me and we can continue our conversation. I don't want to be hijacking the OP's thread any longer.

And then there are people like you that take things literally.....I said Lexus because its one of the first cars that comes to mind thats affordable and has nice luxury I drove an m6 not the auto and compared to my neck snapping car yes it felt damn luxurious and smooth to me. Glad you like the Lexus line....not for me though too girly.
Well I will speak for many of us pre-owned vette buyers:
I have not driven the C6 but the numbers show it is powerfull, and I think it looks as sharp as the C5. So you guys keep right on buying that fantastic new vette and keep putting your pre-owned vettes on the market. In a few years I will be looking to upgrade to a newer C5...perhaps an 04, or maybe wait for a good 06 with paddle shifters.
A buddy and I went down to the local Chevy dealer to check out a new C6 and the engine compartment didn't seem finished/refined. Is there a reason why the inner fender wells on a C6 are not finshed but are gray gel coat? Just not what I expected for a car with a price tag of over $50k
There are also a bunch of hoses from the radiator and wires just ahead of the fuse box. I really like the car, but was a little disappointed.

Convinced me I wanted loud exhaust, but with cats.

Paul
I always shy away from these threads for exactly the reasons that are coming out in this post from Paul. Comparing C5's to C6's is natural - the same thing goes on in C4 General. The camp is always divided between the C4 guys that love their cars and hate the C5 for styling, etc. C5 guys do the very same thing.
Anyone that knows Paul - knows he is anything but gloating. He is one of the real contributors to this forum and exemplifies all the things that made me want to join it over three and half years ago. He still has friends here - count me as one of them.
Time marches on - generations of Corvettes come and go. Stating that you bought a newer car doesn't mean that you hated your old car or that you are better in any way than the people that chose to keep their car. It goes without saying that a newer model is going to be an improvement over the previous model.
If you don't like the C6 - fine, you don't have to. I love my C5 and I will never get rid of it. But that doesn't mean that I might not ever own a newer car. I admire all of the technology and the improvements that were made in the C6.
So - bottom line here should be that we all agree to disagree, and that the common thread that binds EVERYONE together on this forum, regardless of which generation car we each prefer is the love of the nameplate, it's heritage and the fraternity of ownership.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
