ziptie mod...same as what?

Here's a very cool DIY mod of the stock intake forum member dndrsn posted a month ago. Very creative.
Here is a cold air induction you can do yourself with your stock parts. You will need a washable filter and some Tie Wraps.
I haven't seen this mod on the forum since I've been here so I will name it the "Flip Tie" mod. If someone has posted this mod on the forum before please let me know and I will pull my flag out.
Essentially it is the bottom and filter frame of the stock airbox flipped over and fitted into a hole cut into the radiator shroud and held together with Zip Ties. I even used the clamps from the stock box so the filter could be changed easily.
If this mod proves interesting, I will do a "how to" write up with pics.
Here is the link to the write up. WRITE-UP

Yes, Patches....that is the one that caught my attention. If it's as good as Blackwing, Halltech, and the whole gang I may want to do this mod and sell off all the other stuff. In my mind this mod + a few other components is the most bang for the buck mod of all time!

Here's another DIY intake mod developed by Dave68 for the Halltech and Blackwing intakes that you might be able to add to the one above to direct more fresh air into the intake.

That's one I haven't seen. Reminds me of the K&N FIPK approach where the shroud is transformed into an opening flap to suck more air near the filter. When I asked K&N if the cut into the shroud was absolutely necessary, they said it was required to allow the filter to fit under the hood!!!...nothing about additional air....go figure

...although most dyno runs that I've seen are done with the hood-up, so much of the engine-generated heat rises up and away from the intake filter. The most accurate way to dyno, IMO, would be to close the hood and blast 100 MPH air towards the front of the car. The thing that worries me a bit about the flip mod is that there is a slight chance that filter can be damaged by hard objects that occosionally bounce around that area. The other thing that would be nice to know is just how well the filter is sealed. Guys that do this mod should check their TB opening periodically to see if dirt is getting past the filter and to make sure the filter is not damaged. Radiators do get damaged occasionally, as well.
