Default Valentine 1 question....

If I buy a used V1 can I have the ownership transfered from the original owner? I heard Valentine will not service it if it is not from the original owner. thanks...

I don't see why they would not service it, could be that they will not do upgrades. I would recommend giving them a call.

Their web site only says that they will not repair a V1 that has an unreadable serial #.

How would they know? Do you have to send them a receipt proving purchase? If they won't do it, get a PASSPORT they will, as long as you are willing to pay the service fee ($59.95).

I have a used V1 and they've given me the price for an upgrade (expensive). I have no reason to believe they won't do it. What I'm not sure of is whether to spend more on an upgrade for a V1 than I will for a new Escort.

I have the PASSPORT 8500 and love it. No false alarms and when I sent it in for servicing they upgraded it too.

The cost to upgrade the V1 is related to what model from which you're upgrading. If you get a model that's only a few years old (with the newer, smaller case), the upgrade doesn't cost that much - like $50-$75. If you have the earlier older-style, larger case, then it's more expensive. I bought both the V1 and the 8500, tried both, sent the Passport back. Everyone has they're own preferences. I'd recommend trying both, and see what you like. The overwhelming % of people that do this ultimately choose the V1 in my experience.
Cheers,
Vaughn

I do like the arrows and almost went with the V1 for that reason alone.

According to their site, it has to have a readable SN or it won't be serviced.
For warranty work, original owner only. Non-Transferable.

The Serial # is good and is recognized on the V site. So, I should be ok for servicing, correct?

I have a V1 (bought in 2002) and didn't know an update was available? I guess I'm not paying enough attention.

Are there any major updates for the older ones with the bigger case? I bought mine a several years ago, but haven't heard of any major updates besides the POP.

Thanks,

Rick

Go here, http://www.valentine1.com/upgrades/ , and enter your serial number. It will tell you if an upgrade is available and the cost.

Rick,
I'm not sure what the latest revisions are. The best way to check is to just enter your serial number into field at the bottom of this page:

http://www.valentine1.com/upgrades/

It will tell you what is available.
Cheers,
Vaughn

I bought my V1 used and ordered a new owners manual and wiring kit from their website. They called me the next day to confirm my information since I wasn't the owner they had on record for that serial number. If you don't have the serial number they won't sell you anything.

I have 3 V-1s. Two are hard wired to the Explorer and the MB and I use one as a curly cord plug in backup on the Corvette on long rides.
I have had one updated by Valentine. I beleive they keep the old one and send you a brand new latest model for the upgrade price.
