I remember last year someone posted a series of pictures of reparing some damage to their rims. The other night I am not sure what happened because I was not that close to the curb, but to make a long story short I have major curb rash to one rim.
They are HREs so I imagine I can just replace the outer section, but if someone remembers or can repost the one link on reparing rims I would appreciate it.
Quite simple...start with a 400grit sandpaper on a block and sand the damage down. Once it's smooth, got progressively to 600, then 800 grit, then an aluminum polish. It took me about 20 minutes to complete the repair...couldn't see any sign of it from more than 12-18" away...and even then it was hard to see...
Thanks for the information. I am going to try and get El Dorado County to pay for the damage, but I want to fix it while I am fighting them. The inlet on the catch basin is way steeper than specs call for. Cal Trans says that the grate can be no steeper than 8.3 percent and I have a feeling that this one is closer to 20 percent.
I am going back to take some measurement, but I am sure that it is steep enough so that when you are 4 to 6 inches away from the curb your rim would still hit.
Any way, thanks again for the imformation. Now I will take some pictures and start working on the rim.
