New to the vette.

What is the normal operating temperdature of these cars....

Mine has me worried because it sits at 226f

At red lights it can climb then fall a lil but stays at or under 226 ....

I dont ever hear the fans cut except at startup and I here a wine for a lil bit then it goes away.....

Please Help..

I believe that is normal operating temps for these cars. I have my fans programmed to come on sooner and the temps stay around 198, may look into that before the summer.

I had it changed when I had a tune, you may be able to do it with a handheld programmer (hypertech, diablo) but you would have to check with someone with experience with those.

Your best bet is to clean out the radiator, both in front and between it and the condensor. Lots of stuff sucks up in there and sticks. Don't get involved in changing out thermostats and programming fans. When you're moving, whether the thermostat opens at 170 or at 190 won't make any difference at all in your operating temp and the air forced through the radiator will cool it, if it's clean enough for air to pass through the fins. Mine runs in the 190-200 range all the time with all stock set up.

That's a possiblity too, but I am glad my fans come on early, 226 is too hot for me.

I'd check your hwy temps. This will let you know if it is OK and then you can address the idle temp if you'd like.

I'd have a flush and new anti-freeze with distilled water. My 98 with 11,000 ran hot when I prchased it last year. Flush and service, now consistently 180-190 degrees.

Unless it's sitting at a light my '99 will run around 192. Hot day stuck in traffic up to 210. Check/flush your coolant plus as a previous post said clean the front of your radiator real good. Finally, you could have a stuck thermostat. One partially closed will overheat a car in a hurry. $.02

I would say thats running a bit hot. Even on a hot day in Vegas mine would be about 190-195. 225 is about the temperature the fan cuts in. If your fan is working overtime that would explain why it stays around 226.

Good advice to check if you have garbage in the intake. That'll bump the numbers up.

These cars do run warm, but the normal operating temp on mine is about 196 degrees. It will go up to around where your's is when in stop and go traffic, but also comes back down when the fans kick on.

Default Coolant Temp

My C-5 has 23,000 miles. I installed a 170 degree temperature thermostat, reprogrammed the fans to come on at 180 and the vehicle very seldom gets above 195.

The cooler the 350 block is, the more horsepower it will produce therory is in play here, I also added (2) quarts of a water wetter that is alleged to reduce engine heat into the coolant, about 14 bucks from WestCoast Corvettes.

The higher operating temperatures were for emissions in discussion with Chevrolet customer service and this was one of their fixes a 190 thermostat and programming the fans to turn on at 210. By changing thermostats does not aler the vehicle warranty.
