I've just noticed my front running/turn signal lights are fogging up and have a lot of moisture inside them. Has anyone else had this problem?
Any advise?
There are a lot of reports of the housings cracking which lets in moisture. The big problem is that it leads to premature bulb failure. You may find your DRL bulbs start to burn out.
On a sound housing, the seals on the lights are quite tight and shouldn't let in the moisture. In fact they are a PITA to break open when changing a bulb.
Its worth pulling the light units and inspecting them. You'll probably find the bulbs have burned or cracked the cluster. Some members use sealant to fix them or you could buy one of the replacement styles.
I've inhibited my DRLs (for a different reason) but that reduces the heat in the cluster and improves bulb life as a spin off.
I’ve heard reports that the design has the bulb to close to the housing and it actually melts the housing allowing moisture in. You might want to check the tops of your housings and if they are indeed melted to reseal them with silicone or something…. Mine are fine though and I run my DRLs all the time.
I replaced mine with the clear ones (ebay 49.00) and they are stamped GM, which surprised me. The OEM's had hairline crackes above each of the bulbs that you could see was letting in moisture. To bad they didn't make a low heat bulb so that would not happen.
I used double sided tape on the inside top and put in a 1" x 1" square of mirror and after they are on for a while there does not appear to be any heat on the top of the plastic.
On the old ones I put in a small bag of dessicant (from pill bottles) and that took care of the moisture. Still looking for a low heat bulb.
I recently had a DRL out on the passenger side. It was a PITA getting the bulb out...it was sealed really well. However, when I got the bulb out, the bulb itself was cracked open like an egg and full or water. I've always noticed alot of moisture in the lens but thought it was just behind the blackout cover. Looks like I better get some silicone sealer.
