Default Looking for a Z06 HELP!!!!

hows everyone doing. im new to the forum and after awhile of deciding on what car to get this spring it came down the the Z06. It seems like its the best way to go. i've never driven one but it just seems like an awesome deal for what you get. If anyone has any advice for me id appreciate it. I've decided to go with an 02-04 and hope keeping the price below 30k. Is there anything I should look for when looking at and test driving the cars? Any problems with certain years? Im about to spend a lot of money and I dont want to make any mistakes. Thanks for any help.

For that type of $ I would say you can get a low mileage 02 or a medium mileage 03. They are pretty much the same car. I made the mistake of not looking at these forums before buying my car! Check for the cars for sale on this site and the other and you will find exactly what you are looking for! Great cars!

I just bought an 02 Z06 after owning a 97 coupe for the last 3 years. What an awesome car!! The Z06 makes my 97 feel slow!! I spent every day for 3 months looking for just the right car (low miles, color, superb condition). Got it on E-bay from a very nice couple who rarely drove it. I don't know why, it's huge fun to drive. Didn't realize just how fast the Z06's are. Just keep looking for exactly what you want and I highly recommend a Z06, a real hot rod!!!!

Don't discount the '01 Z's either......

A few mods can go a long way with extra $$$ in your pocket.
Got lucky, found mine for $22k and walked away with a $20k Z06 after haggling.

Now it's mod time with all the extra $$$ I saved.
I too used to own a '98 Coupe A4 and it was sporty but not the racing breed of a Z06.......my '01 would smoke the doors off that plain C5.

Rides a bit rougher and you hear stuff (noise) but I'm never going back.

whats the main difference between the 01 to the 02-04 z06s. i know theres a about a 25 HP difference but where did that extra HP come from and is there any difference drivetrain or suspension wise.

If you are heavily modding in the future, I would go with the 02 and early 03 Z06 with the easier to work on fuel system.

Huh ???

As for differences, most of it is the upgraded CAM, elimination of the pre-cats, larger opening in the air filter, no screen in the MAF, and sodium filled valves.

All these can be accomplished for an '01 with bolt-ons. By the time I'm finished with mine, it'll have more HP & Torque than an '02-04 stock.

Plus $$$ in my pocket.

I have a buddy with a mint '02 Z06, 12,000 miles, completely stock, torch red, ebony interior. He never drives it. New house, on a lake, pontoon boat, too many toys, PLUS a new baby (1st one). He was just asking me to list it on the forum. If you're interested his name is Mike Hauer, mhauer@stanleyworks.com drop him a line. Tell him George Gray said to call.
Regards,
George

Don't know that you'll get an '03-04 Z for under $30K, but you might depending on the mileage you are willing to accept. The Z06 is an awesome car - good luck finding the one you want.
