Tire replacement
I have a 2002 that has the original Goodyear tire. Was every vette in 02 equipped with the run flat?? They have almost 17,000 miles and I was hoping the get another 5,000 miles. Talking to a buddy he tells me I must replace these with run flats because the rim is designed with a lip that makes mounting a non-run flat impossible. Is this really the case? He says if I want to go with standard non-run flats I'd need to change rims. I like the polished rims that came with the car and don't need the expense of new rims. However I'm not really crazy about the stiff ride of the run flats so do I have the option of non-run flats with current rims? I'm sure there must be many forum members that have faced this problem.

First thing, your buddy is WRONG! You can mount any non-runflat tire on your rims. I've got a '02 vert and I have Goodyear non-runflats. I have about 25,000 miles on these tires and there is still a lot of life left in them. There is wide variety of tires available to you. Remember if you go non-runflat you will have to make provisions to deal with a flat tire.

My ride improved immensely after I switched to non-runflats. And of the many choices, the Goodyear GSD3s are at the top of the heap when it comes to dry and wet handling. With non-runflats, you will lose about 24 lbs of unsprung weight, which contributes to the smoother ride and less wheel-hop over rough pavement while traversing a curve.
