Default brightest Reverse lights?

I'm planning the blackout reverse light lenses with the crystal reflectors
from C5vetteLs1

I have enough trouble seeing behind me at night as it is
my question is: what is the brightest possible light that will fit in the reverse light housing? I don't have much confidence in the LED bulbs after i tried some in the taillight housings.

There's a small voice in the back of my head suggesting i mount auxillary back up lights inside the rear vents on custom brackets but i'd really like to avoid doing that

you should just try the stock ones first, they're brighter than LED in this application.

stock on left, LED on right:

How far do you have to back up? I switched the clear housing and LED's and I agree, there isn't enough light. I like the look of the LED's versus the stock bulb though. I thought switching to LED's would be brighter, guess not. I figure the reverse lights are more for the other cars around you unless your back up in long dark areas. If there's another alternative we'd like to know?

Default back up lamps

I switched the fogs from 38 watt 889 or 893 to 50 watt 885s. What a difference. Anyone know what bulb would be a higher wattage and fit in the back-up light socket without any adverse problems (like melting the plastic lens)? BIGHANK

APPEND: 2357 lamps are about 20% brighter at 3 CP vs the 2057 lamps at 2 CP. At $1 each its worth trying them. Only drawback filiment is rated at 400 hours vs 1200 hours for a 2057 but WHO USES THE BACKUP LIGHTS FOR 400 HOURS?

Default bright backup lights

Almost bought 2357 lamps yesterday but saw they were ROUND BASE.
THOUGHT they were like stop/tail 3057 with rectangular base. SILLY ME!!!! Took out socket and found C5 uses a MIXTURE of OLD ROUND base lamps and NEW RECTANGULAR base lamps. Will get the 2357s today at $.99 each and try them out. BIGHANK

The 2357s are a lil brighter than the 2057s. Don't think it makes much difference. If you change out the fog lights and use the 885s you will see a BIG difference. Also got some 168 bulbs to put in the side markers VS the 194s in there now. 168 is same filiment configuration but is 3 CP VS 2 CP for the 194s. Too COLD to play with them now. Snowing here today so spring came and went in MD. BIGHANK

Good choice, the LEDs are not as bright as I have them with my entire black out kit and no issue for me

Default 2357 cost

Paid $.85 each for the 2357s. Call around they are usually less than a dollar each. BIGHANK
