So if you were planning a trip in a week or so, to go 3/4's the way across the country for pleasure purposes, would you:
A) Drive your Vette for the round trip 3600 mile adventure.
B) Fly SWA and save the miles, wear & tear on the Vette, and get an extra fews days to lounge at home afterwards?
Also:
If one were to consider an '01 with just turning 19K on the clock low miles, would another 4K or say about 24K definitely take it out of the gray area of low miles to be more normal miles?
as much as I love my Corvette, I would def. fly. its easier, you don't have to worry about where to drive your car, and like you siad, you get a lot more days to lounge around and reelax!
for an 01, 19k is def. a low mile vehicle, even 24k is low miles for that year.
Golly, this is a tough one. Either one would be a winner. Extra at-home lounge time is hard to come by these days. However, a road trip might be good for both you and your Vette. If the scenery is interesting along your planned trip, driving would be a real plus. Air travel is fast, but generally uncomfortable, and ya don't see much from 30,000 feet.
What makes it more difficult is I just got back a few months ago from a trip from FL to BWG, KY and up to STL MO, and back (2300 miles). This one would be FL-ABQ and back. The cost are darn near the same between flying & hotels and driving the vette (gas) and hotels along the route.
And driving the Vette on road trips is just an awesome way to travel.

No question, FLY as you have BAD weather around most of the good ole US of A and unless you have a duck's view of the world, rain, wind, sleet and snow is not the type of scenery I want to look at no matter how great the ride is.

Vette hell, I'd drive my Lexus LS430 and really enjoy the trip. GPS, about the same gas mileage (vette does get a couple of miles more to the gallon), more room, and smoother ride.
Iam planning a trip from Houston to somewhere in Colorado in a few months , simply to drive and enjoy the roads. It will only be about 2500 miles but I can't wait... so driving for me .

I'm not saying a Corvette....But as I'm sure you know the national average Is 12k a year, I think It's more like 15k/Yr I.M.H.O~ But at 12k an 01' would be crossing the 84k mile range. Even at 6k/yr the Vette would only have about 42k miles. So yes 19k & 24k are really low for an 01' Vette.
Back to ? #1.... If I had the time I would take the trip In my Vette If It were during the Spring, Summer or early Fall. Otherwise I'd be In the air 1st class hopefully. I've taken a bunch of trips In the Vette and I love It, but It has to be the right time of the year. I don't want to get caught up In a surprise snow storm If you know what I mean

I know what you mean, if I fly I'd need to book real soon to save a few bucks. And guess what is covering the entire state of NM today and tomorrow... yep winter storm warnings and 8-10 inches of snow
I have a fairly new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs on but when the interstates shut down that's pretty severe.
But yeah I could retire and just drive the red boy all over the country and never tire of it. It's my daugther's 21st bday and was going to drop in and surprise her. Too bad this wasn't like May!!!
I'd fly but not to save the miles on my vette. I bought it to drive and I don't want to "save" it for the next guy I want to enjoy it myself.
The reason I would fly would be to have a few more days in a warm climate to enjoy my vacation.
You're afraid to drive it because you'll put miles on it?? Come on now!!!!! If you can't afford to drive it, you shouldn't own it- why let it sit in the garage and "hold the garage floor in place"? Ron
I drive my '01 Vert every day, it's my daily driver. Matter of fact it is my only vehicle right now excluding the Cobalt I bought for my daughter. Since I bought it, it had 14K on it, within just under 5 months I've put just at 5000 miles on it so far. I just did a trip at 2300 miles. Maybe it was the way I phrased the question, fly or drive putting miles on the Vette.
I only asked the question about mileage to see what the general concensus is on what's considered high miles or rather low miles I should say.
Heck no, I'm getting older I want to enjoy every moment I can behind the wheel. Rain, shine, snow it don't matter. Just wash it off and go. Heck right now it's sitting the parking lot getting dusted with freakin pollen. It's under GM warranty so if something breaks they fix it.
Are you freaking kidding me, after going through over 5 years of a C4 that was a work on me every dang weekend, always wondering should I take a trip and get stuck somewhere for mechanicals... nada I searched for a baby like this so I could put the miles on it not someone else. I drive the heck out of it, but it still looks like it rolled off the assembly line... I keep my stuff nice.

Depends on the destination. If I were going to somewhere like Disneyland I'd probably fly to get in the extra time at the park.
In general though, I'd prefer to drive. I enjoy driving, and you don't have to deal with the "Take off your jacket. Take off your shoes. Is that a bottle of water in your bag? Bend over and grab your ankles, you might feel some pressure." BS at the airport.
Yea true about that and OIA can be brutal at times.
Going from Florida to New Mexico to visit my daughter. Eh probably the roads are all nasty now across Texas and NM from trying to plow them.
Im here in the great state of Oklahoma and I would say Fly if this trip is anytime soon. The roads in the surrounding states are vete killers. The ice build up between the ruts is killing all my cars except the 4x4.
if it were spring I would take a drive on good ol route 66 or something with a good view.
