I am the #1 hater of "replica" wheels, but I agree with you concerning the finish---black with a machined/polished lip. I think all-black wheels look okay on track cars and winter beaters. For a clean street car, I feel the polished lip gives the wheel/tire combo some visual separation. You can easily see where the tire starts and the wheel stops. This works especially well with low aspect ratio sidewalls, as the polished lip lets you actually see the profile of the tire.
If my wheel lips were black, they would get "lost" in the tire...

I’ve never been a fan of black rims, but they do look better with a chrome or polished edge. I’ve always preferred polished aluminum or chrome rims. It’s your car and it’s what YOU like that matters. Good luck and have fun picking your rims.

This thread is long and beat to death but I figured I would chime in anyways.
I hate chrome personally. It makes the car look cheap and white trash to me. Like something an old person would drive.
Like polishing a turd. I guess this is coming from the world of motorcycles with the saying "chrome won't get you home".
People put money into blinging their ride out and don't bother with the real stuff like engine. That is how I feel when I see chrome on a vehicle.
IMO...
Chrome looks good on Yellow vehicles.
Black looks good on Black or Red vehicles.
Same vehicles
Same wheels
But I think the black sets the car off and the silver wheels make it look cheap.

I don't like black tennis shoes either.
But if your entire wardrobe was black from head to toe, white shoes would look stupid.
Chrome shoes would look even stupider.

Did you mean "aluminum" in regards to finish? Because all wheels are made from an alloy. Just an FYI.
Actually, considering the gazillion imports and 4x4s running black aftermarket wheels, you won't be different at all. Just browse this site alone. Probably half of the cars posted have black wheels of some type.
If you want to be different and make your vette stand out.. Go with black rims.

They look great up close, but looks like your hub caps fell off from a distance.
Then you have to think about the added weight. Wheels are un-sprung weight, these will take more power to turn. Most after market wheels weight 5 to 10 pounds more then stock. Think about the stuff we do to get that 1or 2 extra HP. Why would you want to lose any?

Gee, I didn't realize black paint weighed so much!
