might be forced into using the vette to get to work
as you can see i live in central ohio.don't get a lot of snow but the salt has me woried.any help on this matter will be great.
thanks
scott s.
ps.
if i go with all season tires how much performance will i loose compaired to a summer tire.
2004 Coupe, new March 1st, picked up with 6 miles on it.....55,000 miles in less than 3 years. Live on Long Island where we get a fair amount of snow/ice and salt is in an abundance.
The Vette makes a great DD. If you get into salt, rinse off the bottom with a hose or go to one of those car washes that has an undercarriage wash. These cars aren't wussies, they are meant to be driven
buy a winter beater for the price of a new set of tires.
Until then, just take it really easy. I bought my first winter vehicle after hitting black ice in my IROC-Z years ago, and have kept one around since then. Good luck.

My 98 C5 has 101,000 plus miles. C5's make great daily drivers ! I agree, use a car wash with a under carrage wash. Touchless are best for drive through.
You will love it, these cars were made to be driven. No matter how bad your day has been, you can look forward to the drive home.
It is important to get at least all-season rated tires, "summer only" tires get too slippery when it is cold (below 30 F) .
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRR
NOT going to happen!
There is nothing SPECIAL once the car becomes a salt bitten DD!
Used my 96 for a DD for years. 84 miles round trip all highway no traffic loved everyday of it
Now between the isane traffic, it being Z (6 speed), and my loud exhuast I would hate to be using it to comute.
I don't care how many times people roll into the back of me in traffic in the truck, thats what the hitch is for seriously I have been tapped by the driver behind me about 3 times in the last year. Apparently in Atlanta its the fashion

If you have to drive when the roads have been salted, just be sure to clean the underside as soon as possible. I just don't like having all that gunk on the car.

You'd be surprised at what you can find for less than the tires.
Check out eBay seller from Talmage (sp) Ohio. He carries a lot of high milage Jeep Cherokees in grate shape with lots of miles. They run great, are usually 4WD, run great and run forever. This company will not handle a Jeep with any rust. Get them for about the price a another set of tires.
Insurance for the beater might cost you more than the beater itself so you could put the Vette on a low use specialty policy with the beater on a 'liability only' one to keep insurance costs at bay.

Good point Spivet. He in Arkansas the cost of liability for the Jeep is about $550/year but it is still an expense and could be a lot higher in Ohio.
my c5 is a daily driver and its great if you can keep your foot out of it.
i lope along at 70 in 6th sipping gas to the tune of 30 mpg. so it's a $2.75 commute.
