I started up my car for the first time in 10 days. I've read that you should run the A/C as well when you start it. When I press the button, all that happens is the A/C indicator light flashes about 3 times and that's all. It's about 17 degrees outside right now. Is it so cold that the car actually knows not to engage the A/C? This is the first time I've ever experienced this. Should I be concerned? Thanks.
That's what's happening. If you set in on defrost in the mode setting, the compressor will kick on if that's your intent. The a/c won't come on below a certain temp, can't remember what it is, but it's certain it won't at 17.
i think the compressor does not come on if the outside temp is below 35 ( give or take a couple of degrees ) .
your issue is normal dual zone climate control operation .

The manual says the A/C will not operate at temperatures of below "approximately 35 to 40 degrees". The flashing light lets you know its been inhibited.
I'm always "fighting" with my A/C. Sometimes it kicks in automatically when I don't want it to. I guess they designed this car to be smarter than the average driver!

Putting it on DEFROST will engage the AC compressor in the winter. Can't hurt to spread a bit of lube around!

It appears that my compressor has gone bad and I may need a new one. What am I looking at as far as cost + labor install. Does this sound like a job for a mechanic or is it something I can do with a few extra hands and if so, is there a write-up regarding this matter anywhere?
