6.5 quarts. You're gonna need 13 quarts though.

The book says 6.5 qts.

Some members use as much as 7 qts to reach full on the dipstick. Also some of the guys who track their cars add a little extra.

Don't forget to charge the oil filter before you put it on if you're doing a DIY oil change.

RTFM

Read The Fu**ing Manual

It is listed in the Owner's Manual, along with other minor information such as what filter (AC-Delco PF46) and oil (Meets GM standard 4718M) to use.

And don't forget, you can also use a PF44.

Mine holds 6.5 quarts, just like the manual calls for. With that amount, the oil level on the dipstick shows full.

The C5 holds 6.5 quarts of oil.

With that said, there are two full indications on the dipstick. Early (your 1998 is an early year) years show full at the top of the hash mark (normal full indication).

Later years (not sure about the cutoff) show full at half the hash mark (due to GM changing dipstick tube/stick).

After you drain your oil, and lift the rear higher (to drain out an additional 4 ounces), put in 6.5 quarts of oil. Run engine. Let sit for at least 7 minutes, and observe oil mark, this is your full line. Of course this is on a level surface.
