I also have an '01 Z. I usually have to add about half to a whole quart of oil in between oil changes. I don't think that it is a huge problem, I don't have any leaks or anything, just seem to burn a little oil in between changes

I've only had the light come up on mine once, shortly after 3000 miles, but the car did endure lots of high-rpm driving (mountain drives, etc)... But what he said is right, if the light comes on, check the oil level, and add .5-1qt as needed.

And enjoy the Z!

If the oil level is OK as you said, then the first suspect would be a faulty oil level transmitter.

Welcome to the 01 Burner crew!!! I go through about 1 qt every 800 miles and don't mind dumping a qt. of fresh synthetic every now and then.

How 'sensitive' is the oil sensor ?

Does it trip automatically if it's down 1/2 a quart or more ?
So far I haven't owned mine long enough to comment on oil consumption.

Sometimes if you are parked on a hill you will see the message as the oil in the pan has drained away from the sensor enough to trigger the message.

I use to have the same problem with my 01, 1/2 quart here & there. I changed to a Fast 90/90 and noticed LS6 intake was slightly coated with oil on the inside. I went ahead and purchased a oil catch can and prepared for installation per recommedation from others on the board. Prior to installation I noticed the crappy PCV setup. I've never had any vehicles with a PCV valve mounted in a horizontal position prior to the vette. I replaced the pcv valve with a new unit (old unit was leaking) and setup the PCV valve vertically. To this date (it's been 6 months), I've not burned any oil nor installed the catch can. This also includes 35 passes at the track.
