Have any of you tried changing your tranny fluid with Mobil 1 syntec? I assume the weight should be 5w-30 since it's the thinnest. Looking for something to improve smoother shifting in addition to not voiding my warranty if anything should happen down the road. Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my Z06 with no problems. It is a direct replacement for Dexron III ATF which is what is in the MN12 from the factory. Best thing about it is it's available just about everywhere, and is competitively priced, and yes, it will smooth out shifting.
Hope this Helps

The transmission should be filled with automatic transmission fluid and synthetic is a great way to go. I use Redline DT4, but whether you use Mobil, Redline, Amsoil, or whatever go to a synthetic auto fluid not 5w-30x motor oil.

How often do you change the trans fluid? And rear diff as well?

Depends how much you drive your car and what you are doing with it. If you are just doing street driving and not getting on it really hard, just follow the service intervals in the owner's manual and you'll be fine. However, if you are doing track days, drag racing, or otherwise beating the car really hard, then you should be changing the fluids at least once a season, depending on how hard you are on the car and how many events you are doing. The more you drive the car hard, the more often you should change them. If you use the car hard for track days and the like, good rule of thumb is to start the season with all fresh fluids and then see how much you use it and how hard you are going.
Engine oil should be changed more often. Some guys do it after every track events, or 3 to 5 track days. You can go a lot longer with the tranny and diff though, IMHO. Brakes should be bled before each event also.
The car calls for Dexron III ATF in the manual trans.
I used Red Line for my car.
I find that the trans fluid looks pretty dirty on the cars I have changed out - I am guessing it is the carbon synchronizers that make the fluid so dark, but Rodney from RPM or someone who really knows might be able to say for sure.
It almost seems that the plugs for the fill and drain have an orange type tape on the threads. Is that similar to the tape you wrap around threads while doing plumbing? Do you need to retape when you put the plugs back in?

Hi bluestreak63 -
You could use teflon tape to seal it I suppose, but I have not had any problems just replacing the plugs as is -
I use Mobil1 ATF for the tranny. I recently had the fluid changed and saw that it came out almost like it went in...clear red. From what I saw, I plan on changing it less often than once a year.

I'm a longtime fan of Royal Purple Synchromax, but used to have to use it due to a specialized application. Since I swear by Amsoil for engine oil, it sounds like I have some decisions ahead of me!
Haven't got the Z out to a track day yet (only had it a month) but the previous car i tracked was a ~300 hp FWD car with a torque biasing diff (Quaife) in the transaxle, I ran Mobil 1 synth. The Q. ATB diffs generate a ton of heat (always pegging my 270 degree gauge) and the Mobil 1 always held up well. Some of the redline/Amsoil ones are good, but Mobil 1 can be gotten at any Autozone for $4.99/qt.
