My coupe’s carpet is light oak and I really want light grey so I am wondering if I can simply dye my light oak carpet light grey. Has anyone tried dyeing their carpet and if so what did you use, how did it turn out and have you had any longevity problems?
I had the same idea except I went from light grey to black. In doing this I could not get the shade of black that matches my Loyds mats but it did come out a very dark black. I dyed my carpet 3-times to acheive the color I have now over a period of 3-weekends. Letting each application completly dry. As far as longevity, I can not answer that. I just finished with it last weekend, and this weekend I am re-installing the seats with new seat covers. My carpet was in good shape but wasnt crazy about the color. In my opinion this was money well spent,$60.00 versus $999.00 for new carpet. The carpet dye I used was from RightLook.com or type in carpet dye. I bought 6-bottles of dye but only needed 4. Now back to the other part of your question. Im not sure you will be able to go from oak to Lt grey but I would guess you could use black and get a darker shade of grey. They have several colors to choose from, best of luck.
I mixed the bottles in a spray windex bottle and saturated the carpet. While spraying the dye I took a brush medium stiffness and brushed the carpet to make sure the color was uniform. It was actually easier than I thought. Once you have the seats out, it only takes about an hour to apply the dye through out. It took 2-3 days for the dye to dry in my garage with the rear hatch and doors open however I was going for black so it took several applications to get the carpet dark enough. I am very satisfied with the results. Your forearms will get a workout though. Good luck!

I ordered 3 cans of black carpet dye from rightlook.com. I will let everyone know what I think about the results!
