Default Quick Question about clay bar?

Do I need to wash the car after I clay bar it and before I wax it?

Thanks,
Jason

I do just to get all the detail spray off the car before I put the wax on. I dont think its completly necessary because i have done it both ways, but I think it will probably be better if you do.

I do. Gets all that residue off before applying the polish.

I have never used a clay bar.

Is it a tedious/time consuming process ?

Is there a problem to clay bar the car in sections.......like a fender a week ?

Its not all that time consuming but I wouldnt reccommend doing a fender a week. It will take less than an hour to do.

If you are going right to a sealant / wax after clay I would wash the car to remove the residue.

It should take about an hour to clay a Vette. Make sure you use plenty of lube. If the bar starts to "hang up", add some more lube.

It's a fast process with plenty of your favorite lubricant. If you do a section a week, by the time you're done the original section will have contaminants on it again. That's the purpose of the clay, to remove the junk on the paint, prepping it for your favorite polish/sealant/wax.

Well half done. Just got finished washing the car, time too dry and take a break(maybe a beer), then start waxing.

You may want to consider glaze/polish first before waxing.
This extra step will give a much deeper shine.

That's also what they recommend on the Meguiar's web site.

I wash first with Dawn which really removes a lot of tar, grease. Then claybar using a squirt bottle of water with a little Dawn and lots of water to lube as I go. Then wash it again. Then wax, polish - I use Zaino Z5 polish and Z6 gloss enhancer. Usually only claybar every 2 years or so. May do some spot claybar especially around rear of wheel wells. Worth doing at least once and as needed after that.

I'd recommend washing it after the clay bar. You'll really like the feel and looks of the car's surface after using the clay bar too.

Since I don't have any, I am going to wait and pick some tomorrow and finish it up then.

I always wash the car after clay bar. I use a capful of Zaino car wash or similar in a spray bottle filled with water as the lubricant for the clay bar.
