Default If you built Corvettes...........

....what would you include in the "standard" package?

No, this is not a huge "mod" wish list. Just simple stuff that, based on your readings here at the forum, makes you wonder, "Gee, it's cheap enough to do so why didn't Corvette include this in the basic car package?"

Things like frame rails or those frame-saver wheels or oil catch cans or brass instead of plastic gears for the headlights. Rough math tells me that after-market, these things would run about $250-300 not including install (even though if we include our own time for doing these, we could easily double this cost because, like they say, time is money. Even your time.) I'm fairly certain Chevy could probably do it all for less than $150. With new car prices north of $45,000, an extra $150 is chump change for the saved aggravation later (about 1/3 of 1 percent.)

I know, I know, if Chevy did this some of our vendors wouldn't have these items for sale but I am sure they'd come up with something.

So, let's hear what you have to say.

A better CAI and LT Headers should be standard. I like the NAV System, so I am thinking that it should be standard too.

FYI the rocker rails block the jig holes in the frame rails. At the factory the chassis is transported through the assembly line on those holes.

The only things I'd like better from the factory are the steering wheel and the seats.

I filled out a GM survey not long after I bought my car new asking just these questions. Navigation was tops on the list, heated seats (not for me but I'm sure some colder climates would want it), A map pocket behind the seat back, An optional Exhaust (like the days of "chambered systems"), Better quality seat covering, Stripe packages as they did for Camaros etc, Optional sound deadening, More Audio choices,Wheels that we would DIE for, more storage in the cockpit(the center console doesn't quite cut it),Features given us by the Window Valet, as mentioned in the lead thread factory corrections to some "generational problems" such as headlight actuator gears REAL column lock resolve, An electrochromatic outside mirror on the PASSENGER side to compliment the outside drivers side and inside rear view mirror, Possibly an AGM battery or relocation of the PCM, a more ergonomic location of the gas pedal in relation to the clutch pedal (when the seat is adjusted properly for clutch throw my leg is bent as the gas pedal winds up to close to me), Run flats are fine but the design of the 1st gen has proven to fall short of other manufacturers and generation changes, a functional "grill" or screen to keep trash out of the cooling passage, This got LONG didn't it! I love my car both because of what GM built and what we did to refine it, but you did ASK.

an off road package for racing. Like a good cai, High flow cats with catbacks, racing seats, a choice of rear gears up to 4.10s from the factory. A better choice of tires, stereo too.

I am surprised know one mentioned SC...I like the idea of our cars being a solid performance car NA and don't really like the idea of them coming SC'd, but wow, that would really solidify the CORVETTE being the big dawg.

OKAY, we are already the BIG DAWG!

stereo controls on the wheel, cruise on the steering wheel, better contoured seats, softer arm rests on the doors, Navigation unit, remove the wiper control stalk and make it a switch in dash, more precise shifter.

There's a start

Forged bottom end, for sure. Plenty of Fords leaving the factory that way, it's a shame our Vettes didn't as well. It would sure make modding them later on significantly less risky, and there would be more high power Vettes roaming the streets.

Well guys the C5 is out of production! even So some of these suggestions are on the C6.
Gm is trying to make a car that will pass emmisons, make us happy and make them a profit.
GM has packaged some stuff we don't want inorder the get what we do want.ei In order to get the HUD in a vert ya gota get the auto top.
They could customize the production line if it was to there advantage, but tis not. So you buy it like it is and change via after market.
The best, for us, would be to take the Vette out of the hands of the chevy dealers. Do direct online orders and Museum delivery or drop ship.
Just my $.02 as I/m going through the (painfulll)process of ordering an 07.
