I really like the old MGW Pistol Grip. After doing some research it appears it's no longer made.
Can anyone recommend a shift **** that is similar? I like the fact that it was a small ****. I'd like something that will essentially lower the shfter height by an inch or so.
I changed to a cue ball and the height was initially too high as well. The shaft goes sooooo far into the original **** - that as soon as you put something else on there it actually lifts the whole thing up.
SoI very carefully used a cutoff wheel (3.5" pneumatic) and some well placed towels to cut off about an inch of the original shaft. There's no going back from here.

Maybe switching to the C6Z shifter would help. It is supposedly about an inch or a little more shorter than ours.
The classic Hurst shifter ***** will thread all the way down and shorten the shifter height. I extended the threads on the stock shifter, then cut the top off the shaft.
I get the naming confused, but is the pistol grip the round cylinder looking ****? I swapped my cylinder style MGW **** out for a MGW gripper ****(the ball style). I have the other one sitting on my coffe table, if you want it I can sell it to you. Shoot me a PM if interested.
I bought both the Delrin Shift **** and the Classic Hurst Pool Ball shift **** and I found that I really like the delrin **** better. It does shorten the height and you can also grip the shifter lower since its essentially the same thickness as the shifter below the boot.
I have a hurst short shifter sitting in my garage right now but have not had the urge to install it. Partially beacause this delrin **** is that good. BTW, I have a black practially bran new Hurst Classic shift **** for sale $30 shipped...

PM sent!
I'm trying to decide between a shortened stock shifter (probably the route i'll take) or an aftermarket that doesn't require an arm workout to shift. Either way I want to find a **** that lowers the height as well.
jpandes - how much lower did the Delrin mod make the overall height? Probalby not something you measured...
I cut my stock shifter down 1-1/2", then ground a little of the taper so it could be thread even lower, then ran a die all the way down to the fat part of the shifter. For me it was the perfect hieght. I tried several ***** & all where fine.
Don't know what GM was thinking when they put it up so high !
PS...I had to trim the top of the boot also.

How much of a pain was this to do? I want to do it also but my car is a daily driver so I don't want it down for a day or two while I screw around with the shifter.

Very easy, about an 1-1/2hr job. All you need is a hacksaw & 9/16-18 thread die. I did it right in the car. You may want to only cut an 1" off, I gound down at the bottom so could go as low as possible, but I cut off an 1-1/2". I'm a mechanic, so this was easy for me but it wasn't a hard job with the right tools. I thought it was a great up-grade for FREE. My shift **** looks like crap because of the coating wearing off, but this is what it looks like, I love it like this. Email with any questions. Thanks, Steve

Thanks for the info Steve! Thats great I don't have to take it out of the car. I do have air tools and such but just a hacksaw sounds okay. I may do it this week!

PS...you may have to put a thin washer or 2 inside the shift **** because when you tighten the **** down it may not be in the right position. Good luck....I'm sure you'll like the results. I was nervous about doing it at first but no regrets.
I removed the black sleeve and the rubber damper inside of it. What's left is a small stub that used to be inside the sleeve. It makes the shifter shorter by almost 3".
I cut about an inch off mine with a dremel without removing the shifter, the **** I have does not screw on so I didnt worry about the threads.Still too high but better.
