I have a 2000 C5 that I bought used last summer. It has 65000 miles on it and I have no idea how many sets of tires it has had. It has the Goodyear RFs on it and the fronts are coming up for replacement. The backs are still better than 70%. My question is do you guys/gals wear the front and back tires out about the same time under normal driving? Or does one go before the other in most cases? I will replace them with the Goodyears becouse I don't like to mix tread or brands. Also I am too old to be repairing a flat on the side of the road. I also don't know if I need to replace the sensor or use the old one. They are working fine. Cost will be a factor also.
Thanks
The backs always wear faster with most rear wheel-drive vehicles. BTW, I haven't had a flat tire for 13 years now and the last flat I had on a Corvette was in 1980 when I had my 68 (which I drove for another 21 years).
In no way an expert on the subject but, on average, the sensors on the 2000 should be good for another year or two. Quite often if your alignment is slightly off, the fronts will wear a little faster, especially on the inside edge. Keep in mind the fronts get more of a scrubbing action from turning, etc. If you do jack rabbit starts or little squeals between shifts then naturally the rears are going to wear as fast or faster.
I would agree that if you are keeping the rears, stay with the GY runflats. Mixing brands and tread designs can cause some steering changes.
Cheers

I have 102,000 miles on my 1998 Coupe. Third set of tires, I get 55,000 miles from front tires and 45,000 miles from back.
First set, I replaced back at 45,000 miles and front at 55,000 miles. Then at 90,000 miles I replaced all four (got a good deal on tires and wheels), still have good fronts on old wheels.
You have the Type I sensors, they last about 7-8 years. I replaced mine with the last set of tires. I would replace the two fronts now with new tires. Fichtner's, a forum vendor has them for about $80 each (Type I are most expensive). Also order new o-rings and nuts.
