C5 or SS?
Im looking for a car, and my budget is 12,000. I found a red SS for 11,000 clean title, 80,000 miles, standard, black leather. but I found a C5 for 11,000 but it was slightly wrecked, only door was damaged, he replaced door, its a 99 vette black on black fixed door painted the whole car, standard, and has 150,000 which should I get?
heres the SS
heres the C5 before and after the wreck

I'd say keep saving. But if I *had* to pick one, the SS.

i gotta tell ya...SS's are a looooooot of fun...you will not get bored of it, so if you're looking to satisfy only yourself, then def. the SS...
however, the camaro doesnt have nearly as much appeal as the vette does...while the ss looks very clean, and 80,000 miles is pretty good, I would go for the vette (much, much more potential), even though the milege is nearly double...the money you would eventually spend getting performance (if that's your taste) upgrades for the SS, you might as well spend on the vette and get a brand new engine...

Keep saving. If you really research the C5 it's just such a great car.
Wait til you can buy a good used C5, you won't go wrong.

Waiting to accumulate more funds for the Vette means ...well waiting, or more specifically not driving a performance car.
The SS isn't a Vette, but it isn't a 2 litre 4 door boring box either.

I love the F-BODY! With the options you listed, I would say go with the "SS" without a doubt!
If you save a few more grand and get somewhere in the high teens, you can find some awesome deals on a C5 easily.
What it boils down to is this...can you wait or do you have to have a sportscar NOW?!
Good luck.

Just from my personal experience. I owned a 2002 F-Body Trans Am WS6 fully loaded. Beautiful and quick! But as much as I enjoyed driving it, I wished I had bought a Vette instead. Last year I totaled it and replaced it with a 2001 Vette convertible. I couldn't be happier. Now I sleep better at night.

For $12K I'd buy a 2003 Mustang GT with about 25000 miles on it.
They are great cars and cheaper to mod the an SS or C5.
Ready for FLAMES

I don't think that I would buy any car with 150K on it except a mid year!

Not going to beat you up on this either, but out of the three, I still would pick up the SS.
I was about to buy a 2000 GT and found a 1999 Z28 and it was not even close in the power department. STOCK for STOCK, the LS1 blows the GT away!

That's what I had before the Vette

If you have to have a car now, get the SS. Otherwise, save and find a low mileage C5.

I say keep saving and get a better used C5 but if I had to choose between those two cars I would get the SS. I have owned a SS and they are a fun car but nothing compared to a Corvette.
