Hmmm...interesting. This is on a 98 coupe. Any service issues like it having issues that require you to have to take it to the dealer?
I have a 98 coupe with this option with about 68,000 miles on the clock with no problems to the F45. I notice a difference with each setting. Hope this helps.
I have a 2002 vert with the F45 which I bought used. When it had GY runflats on it, the difference between the settings was slight and I only felt them at Highway speeds. I changed the tires to Michelin, ZP tires and now the difference between the settings is very noticable. (I usually keep mine in the middle position, touring is too floaty).
Re. the cost to replace the individual shocks, my plan is to get the kit to upgrade F45 to F55 when the shocks wear out. I think the cost of replacing all four shocks in the F45 is close to the cost of the upgrade and I am of the impression the F55 is much better then F45.
I don't notice much of a difference, which makes me wonder whether it's working properly.
Maybe the roads where you test it are much smoother than the roads of those who say it works great. My experience w/F55 is by the flip of the switch you instantly go from Touring Sports Car comfort to a go-cart (harsh, very solid, feel-the-road) ride.
I don't know anything about the F45 but, my 03 Coupe has the F55 and there is a definite difference between "Tour" and "Sport" With Tour on it is smooth and in Sport you feel every bump in the road.
I have an 03 Vert and you can definately tell the difference immediately when you switch from Tour to Sport. It's a great option if it's available-Get It!
My 04 coupe has F55 and there's definitely a difference. I've noticed a big difference when driving over bridge joints on a sharply curving freeway ramp. In Tour mode, there's a bit of jostle and you have to make a small correction with the wheel. In Sport mode, there's a bump, but the car sticks to the road and no steering correction is needed.
I have heard rumors of maintenance issues with the older F45.
It's easy to tell the difference at a glance: the older F45 has three settings; the newer F55 has only two.
I specifically wanted a car w/o this option, but am not entirely disappointed in its performance. I only use the tour and performance settings, as sport isn't a significant difference. Z06 sway bars made a noticable improvement, and I feel that it should've come this way from the factory.
If it fails, I'll probably install the Z06 springs and shocks. It's far too expensive to repair, and the F55 upgrade isn't cheap either.

Minority opinion, perhaps, but on my 03 I'm not that impressed with the F55. The Tour is too soft, the Sport too harsh. I guess the newer models are somewhat improved. And of course we have lousy roads up here.
