I just read in Motor Trend, that there is a rumor that GM is retiring the LS2 and replacing it with a 6.2 litre, 403 HP engine. Does anyone know if that is true or not?
There is a big discussion on the C6 For Sale section regarding this. Apparently the LS2 is being replaced but there is a big rumor that the LS3 will be 450hp which really has the C6 crowd worried.
either way- the C6 guys are speculating the LS2 cars (at least the 05's are starting to fall now) to tumble in price more so then the C5's are now...I believe the 08 is the LS3 car roll out...shoud be interesting...
I am waiting for this trickle down theory to come true...you can already find 05's in the low 30's...when they hit 30, then would be the time to move up a C Series perhaps...
the z06 is getting more power, 650 hp, but im not sure if thats going to be 09 or 2010. doesn't seem to make much since for GM to create the ls3 now and kill the value of the rest of the c6's. seems to me they should wait for the c7 to do the ls3.
but then again, im a c5 owner, what the hell do i know?
Jury's out on that one. I don't know how good the Nassau is going to look with the angularity of the C6's lines.
i think it will look almost better. One side will be lighter and the line will make it dark on the other side. Less of a smear of color like on C5's, but there is still plenty of rounded parts to accent the color.
with more power comes more $$$, a base corvette is gonna be $100,000 in 2010
Not necessarily. The base Vette has continued to add power for the last 20 years without getting more expensive in inflation-adjusted terms. Hell, compare the output of the C6 Z06 to the ZR-1, and it's cheaper in absolute dollar price than the ZR-1 was 15+ years ago. GM won't price the bottom end of the Vette market out.
Yes... new motor will be LS3 6.2 liter w/ L92 heads and L76 intake.
I've heard the same, also to have variable cam phasing just like the L92 Escalade motor, basically the same motor with the L76 intake and a different cam. I would think 450hp is a reasonable estimate considering the L92 is bottom-end-torque biased and used in a truck with the long runner truck style intake manifold.
450hp base 'Vette for mid $40's with the Z51 package? That'll finally be the combination that makes the C6 a better bang for the buck than the C5Z. You've just gotta get over the way it looks...
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
