Call up your local Chevy dealer and they can look up by VIN if it was serviced under warranty. For after market fixes you have to look to see if the bypass harness has been installed. Only certain years need the harness - others are just a computer re-program. There is a thread that gives a detailed explanation about the entire Column Lock issue and its solutions.

I had no choice but to do the recall; my column locked up and wouldn't unlock. After I received the car back, I have had the "remove key, wait 10 seconds" message twice, but after doing so, the car worked. It's been a week now, and the two errors came up early on. I hope it isn't something that hpapens fairly often...

If you can not start your car or can only drive at 2mph what is the chance of a drivers fatality?
In my case, it's a fatality by embarrassment. Mine did it at Jenro's, after the Vettes at Waterside event. Talk about being extremely upset, nothing like your car killing itself in front of about 20 other Vette owners that probably thought I couldn't drive my own car.
