Default Rock Chips

How do guys feel about rock chips? Do you guys just deal with it? or should I look into getting a bra? I was looking into the 3m film protection but there is no one in Hawaii that I know of who installs.

Ive seen the bra and I personally don't care for it. So, I just deal with it!

Have you seen the one from Speed Lingerie? I was loking at those because they come in colors to match the paint or at least come close to matching, I think.

My advice is with ALL bras they will scratch your paint no way around it.....If left on to long the paint WILL fade................Your better of getting some touch up paint from the dealer and spend some time filling the chips after you wash the car.....Just my thought

I agree, bra's suck...even on our cars

Here's a recent chip on my hood - down to the carbon fiber...

I was able to have a friend fix it...almost like it never happened!

The process sort of freaked me out but the results were worth it!

Hi malu -

I think bra's do more harm than good (on cars....).

I get the most road debris damage on the areas directly behind the tires - not so much on the front fascia and hood.

2TONE82 - Wow - that is a nice repair - your friend did a great job.

best regards -

Have you seen the clear protection film from Cleartastic? Thats what I have it can easily be removed and re-applied so far no problems.

Nice 2TONE82

I just hate the fact that every time I take my Z out for a drive I increase the risk of chips. I must have the worst luck.

Hi malu -

Yes - I bought some cleartastic - it was what they said it would be - I did not use it though.

I remember my first brand new car - 1986 Mustang GT.

I babied it, never drove it in the rain, worried about every rock chip etc.

Essentially I never got to enjoy the car.

I have found, through time and experience, that the probability that something bad will happen is in opposite proportion to the amount of care you take to prevent damage.

Rock chips will not slow you down in the 1/4 mile

At least we aren't going to get rusty from the chips!

best regards -

It is a little cashy but Venture Shield makes a great paint protection film that has a life time warranty against yellowing. It is crystal clear. I put it on my 04 Z06 and love it. Bugs just wipe off and no nicks since installation. Will be getting same put on my 07 GMC Sierra on Friday. Unfortuantely I did not see a dealer in HI.

The GM bra for the C5's are great! I had them on four of my C5's already and never got a swirl mark or scratch from them. The only way it would be possible to get a scratch would be if something got in between the bra and the bumper, like a particle of dirt. That's why it would be good to check in between for any particles of dirt every time you put the bra on. The bra really protects the front bumper and part of the hood where damage really occurs. The clear plastic that GM sells is another great product. These cars are very prone to road chips. Personally, I think the bra looks great. I have an '03 and I use the black one. I think it looks great on the car, let alone saving a lot of money for repair of chips that look awful. I should know since custom paint and auto body work is my line of business. A lot of people don't want to use them because they're too lazy to take them on and off, but it only takes a minute to install it or remove it.

I hate driving anywhere near semi's or even other cars for that matter. I guess I try to just deal with road damage though, it's part of driving your car I guess.
