Does anyone have an idea as to why the headliner design was changed?

I'll be putting in my Corbeau A4's next week but they actually lower your height by about an inch (you lose the power seat and use the suplied manual brackets).

AutoMag - I was told a couple of years ago that GM did this for safety reasons; meaning if your head gets slammed back it will hit the headliner to make sure you don't get whiplash. You'd think your head would hit the seat back.

After doing some more research, I think I'll use the Hardbar seat mounts, which allow for a lowered seat mount with Sparco seats (probably similar in height to your Corbeau seats/brackets). I'm guessing that will completely negate my own need for the earlier headliner, but sure appreciate the feedback and photos regarding the differences.
