Yes, the 02 will fit with no modifications. A lot of people are doing this to gain headroom in their later Z06's.
Yes, I did this in my '03 a few years ago and will be doing it again in my new '03. WELL worth it if you're over, say, 6'2" or ever plan to have a helmet on. Took about an hour if I recall. Pretty easy and doesn't require anything crazy. An extra hand would be helpful but I did it all by myself.
If you do this and want to sell your stock headliner please let me know. My front window is leaking a slight bit and has ruined my headliner on the driver side above the a-piller.

Sure. I plan to do this as soon as I get the new Headliner. It should be here by the end of next week or early the following week. My stock Headliner is out of a non-smoking, 15,000 mile '03. Shoot me a PM and we'll figure it out!
Removal is easy. Remove the plastic trim on the A-pillars and B-pillars (this is the hardest part). Remove the sun visors and a plastic pin on the rear of the headliner. Move the seats all the way forward and recline the backs all the way. Tilt the wheel down and you can remove the headliner. Removing the seats will make it a little easier, but it is not necessary.

The hardest part that I had was with the visors; getting the round part to "click back in" to where it was before. But still not hard. No glue or anything else to worry about. I'd say its about as hard as putting on an "intake", which we ALL know how hard that is!
I got mine from a local chevy dealer for a little under $100
They could get it to me faster than anyone at the time so I went for it.
I love having the extra headroom but a little more would be better.
If run the car with a helmet on I have to adjust around a bit in the seat to make it so I'm not pushing the helmet too much into the liner.
If they made one that gave more head room than even the 02 and earlier I'd be all over it.
QuikZilver - The '01 & '02 show as the same thing when you're ordering them.
Yeah, I figured my source was incorrect. Have an extra 01 headliner in my garage, so if I pull the LCD monitor out of my car (mounted into headliner), I had one to put back in. Picked it up off of someone parting out a 99 FRC. Always check out the Parts section here...might luck out and find one. I think I paid $ 25 plus shipping.

I've removed mine several times in an effort to locate & fix my leaky seal. I had a very tough time getting the visors reinstalled.
I just finished my headliner swap (2nd one now). It took about 30 minutes start to finish taking everything out and putting the new one (for an '02) back in. I had my wife sit in the other seat and hold it up while I slid it in the "D-pilars" which was a big help. I also left out the sun visors so that saved some time. This is a must do if you're my height (6'3")! Man does it open up your line of vision!
I deleted my PMs and can't find who it was that wanted my '03 Headliner?.?.? From Tucson? I'll filter through my email again to see if its in there...

You can see how the '03/'04 Headliner has the "bump" that the back of your head or hair hits if you're over about 6'1". On the other side of it you'll see the white "basket" that runs along the back. That's the reason for the bump. Supposedly for safety in crashes, but I just don't see it helping.
What do you really gain from the swap? I wouldn't say you get any extra headroom right above your head, but taking out the bump is the huge part for taller people. If you're, say, 6'0" or shorter I wouldn't bother. If you're taller, spend the $150!!!
Thanks a lot for taking the time to show pictures of the different headliners. That is very helpful, not to mention insightful to know how/why they are different.
My situation is that I'm 6'0" tall and enjoy a fairly upright driving position. I currently don't have any headroom problems. However, I'm planning to purchase an aftermarket seat/slider setup one of these days, and I've heard quite a few people comment that most of these setups will intrude on the headroom.
Does anyone with aftermarket seats feel I might need to do this mod? I suppose I could always do the seats first and see where it leaves me for headroom, but I like to be prepared when possible.
