The LSx family of engines made its debut in the C5. It is an aluminum block with a unique firing order and spawned several new generations of engines, including the LS6 in the C5 Z06 (not to be confused with the LS6 cast iron 454 that appeared in the 70's era Corvettes, Chevelles, and El Caminos). It also spawned the LS2 in the new C6 and the LS7 in the C6 Z06.
It is 5.7 liters (346 cubic inches) in LS1 and LS6 form, and 6.0 liter 362 cubic inches in the LS2. It is 7.0 liters 427 cubic inches in the LS7.
Also the architechture spawned the Vortec line of engines in the Chevrolet trucks - except with cast iron blocks and aluminum heads.
