I have the opportunity to purchase a 99 coupe with both a glass and hard top for $14,000. It is in good shape. The only problem I see is that it has 96,000 miles. Can you C5 experts make a recommendation?
My other option is a 91 convertible with a hard top 65,000 miles for $11,000.
Get the 99 inspected, if it comes out ok you got a good one. There will be some maintainance at 100k, but not more than some fluid changes. See if he will swap fluids all around as part of the deal.
Spend the extra $3000, you want regret it. The C5 is twice the car of a c4, I know, I had two c4's. C4's are nice for what they are, but two complete different cars and for only a few grand more, this is a no brainer...
Being a previous owner of a 1990 convertible and now the proud owner of a 2001 coupe, I'd take the 1999 over the 1991 any day of the year, with the cars being equal. As other have stated, the 1999 is by far the better car, in every catagory. Ride, comfort, noise, exceleration, braking, stereo, room, controls...everything is much better in the C5.
We have a C4 and a C5. The C4 is a nice car but, the C5 has it all over the C4. As others have said, have it checked out by a "qualified" mechanic first.
I had an 84 just got a 99 a week ago. Paid 17K ,70K on the clock for a car with every toy you could get on it from GM for that car and I would never go back to a c-4 Couldn't give me one. The C-5 is just a much better car. As far as the miles go... I can't say much about that really. I'm not a high mileage guy myself and even at 70K i was a little put off BUT i was working on a budget so I got what I could afford and after reading a bunch of post on here of people with twice the miles as the one I got I felt a little better about it.
I'd say jump on it now because it's not going to snow forever or at least thats what they want up to think and the price will go up in he next few months ....Good Luck
I posted this post for a friend. He was really tore between the two cars. scared of the miles and all of the expensive things that could go wrong with a C-5. To make a long story short, he is signing the papers for the C-5 right now.
The 99 is the better car. I wouldn't worry about the mileage if you know that the previous owner took good care of the car especially oil changes and routine maintenance.

I was readin how much everyone paid for thier C5's and I feel like I got raped. I paid $17,750 for a 1999 Coupe 6spd, with 78,000 miles. Had I known I could have bought one for $16k, I would have waited. Oh well, I'm still happy with my new baby.
