There are plenty of excellent 03-04's out there that could be had for a good price, or good deals on new C6's, but a used 05 doesn't make any sense to me.
I was at ECS and a stock 2006 C6 ZO6 was on the dyno, ECS just added headers, tune, and a honker. 472 RWHP. As much as a love my convertible, In a couple years, the C6 ZO6 is going to be hard to say no too.
Actually Ill keep my C5, and for my kids, in a couple years you can pick up a 6.0L GTO for $6-7000.00, and just make it a strip car.
I agree it's your money... when or if I move to a C6 is will have to be a Z06, or I will just wish I had gotten a Z06 when I was driving around a standard C6. I own a 02 Z06, now, so my next step will be the C6 Z06, but that will not be for awhile.
there is something about a C-6 that just doesn't SCREAM CORVETTE to me. Maybe it's the lack of REAL Covette headlights..... I don't know.
They use to get mad at me on here when i called them CORVIPERS but thats the vibe I get from the car. I'm not saying at some point I wont own one but it would be more to say I did then a real LOVE for the car.
Don't get me wrong ..it's still a VETTE and thats cool but for the money right now I'd go C-5 and make better use of the extra cash you seem to have .... like sending me some!
I guess like alot of you I really didn't care for the looks of the c6 when they came out, but they are starting to grow on me. Maybe it's just around here but c5 are still bringing strong money. If I found a good deal on a c5 I would go that way, but that seems hard to do.
the only problem with the C6 is ,it don't come with the wave got beside another one today if it was raining the guy would have drowned..C6 guys have their nose up way too high .
Had the same decision to make back in Oct. I chose an 04' C5 over the C6 primarily because I couldn't justify the extra $20 grand. Haven't looked back since...when next to a C6 my C5 gets noticed more anyway.
I'd get a C6. Better interior, navigation system, bigger engine, bigger wheels, PADDLE SHIFTER, and the list goes on. The paddle shifter should be reason enough by itself, though.
However, my C5 is paid off so that's why I'm sticking with what I have.
Sure, (the C6) is higher tech, but the C5 is no slouch. I have an 04 and don't feel the 25k or so to upgrade to a C6 is worth it. Nice car, but not 25k better.
You'll loose some money on the C6 deal bythe time it gets home, and then a lot over the next year.
You know you can put $15K into the C5 to come out even on day one. Do some homework, get a plan for where you will be happy, and you will probably end up with cash n your pocket, and a better performing car.
You can even go for some look good mods with the money to make it your own.
I asked the same question on the c6 forum the other week. To be fare I thought I would post it here too. I'm looking at about $46K out the door for a new 1lt, z51 c6. I'm just not sure I want to spend that much. Or a low mi 02,03 for $30. What should I do???
Easy - Drive both. Consider both body styles. Buy the one you like the best.
Just make sure it is not my old used '05 that I got rid of about a year ago. It had nearly every electrical problem possible. It did tricks like open the passenger door while you were driving, AH/TCS misbehave and almost "correct" you into a wreck, reduced engine power panic mode where a Cavalier was about 4X faster accellerating (literally), and flakey XM radio reception. Then it gets into the more common mechanical problems like the diff gear grinding, the fuel sending unit thinking that you were empty, etc.
It is nice that the '07's come with a longer warranty, but after 1 1/4 years of that C6 I was so sick of taking it into the shop over and over and over I was ready to get rid of it. I didn't even last 3 years before it drove me insane.
Traded in our C5 F45 Coupe last friday afternoon for a C6 Z51 Convertible. I liked the styling of the C5 better personally, the sexy curves, that big ole rear end and wide stance , and even the interior. The C5 seems to be more of a headturner from what little I've driven the C6, but that may just be torch red versus le mans blue . The extra 50hp of the LS2 over the LS1 is noticeable, and the C6 rides a lot better than the C5 did, but it doesn't seem to be as glued to the road like the 5 was (probably just haven't driven it enough to get used to it though).
I love my c5, but the c6 is better... Go ahead a trash me c5 owners, but i had a c3 and my 2 c4's were better than them, and my c5 is better than my c4's, get the picture! Technology has proven each vette gets better. if you can get a c6 for a few grand more than any c5, you will be better off. I love my c5, but when funds are available it will be replaced with a c6....Ok, I am ready for my spanking...
You won't hear that from me.
Look each Vette is beautiful. GM did a good job with the C-6. Some prefer one over the other. I can't imagine driving a '62 every day, but it's a beautiful car! So is the '67 and '68! But I will eventually drive a C-6. The 2002 coupe may still be in the stable, but I am sure I will like the handling and power of a C-6 (Z06 maybe?).
