Default Help me with some road race prep!

Hey guys, newb to Vettes and road racing here. Just picked up my 01 Z06 recently. I'm thinking about going to head up to Road America in April and I need some recommendations as far as brakes, tires, and other things I would need. I'm not looking to break any records here, but I would like to run safely and able to push the car.

The car has the stock brakes, I was thinking maybe upgrading to some Hawk pads? Should I go with some stainless lines as well?

The tires on there now are brand new Kumho Ecstas. I don't mind beating the crap out of them, I just want to make sure they would be suitable to race on.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

COme on over to the Genereral Corvette - Autocross & RoadRace forum. That is where all the track ppl hang out.

Brake pads, the stock GM Z06 brake pads are great, unless you go to racing bake pads. Racing pads are not street pads, you could drive to and from the event, but need to change back to yoru street pads.

Race pads, in no particular order:

Carbotech XP10, XP11, or XP12
PFC-01s and PFC-05s
Hawk DTC-60 and DTC-70
Wilwood H

Change to FRESH DOT 4 brake fluid with a few weeks of the event

The tires will be fine for your first few events.

The biggest thing is FRESH DOT 4 Brake fluid and just drive and have fun.

Don't forget to add an EXTRA quart of oil to the engine before your first track session (as per your Owner's Manual). And carry at least another extra quart as some 2001 LS6 engines can consume a lot of oil at the track.

Take a GOOD quality tire gauge with you and be sure the tire pressures are good throughout the day (Check them after your first track session, and again at lunch, for example).

Take a good torque wrench and be sure the lug nuts are (stock rims) at 100 ft/lbs. The 2001 Z06 has one locking nut per wheel (previous owner MAY have replaced them) ... be sure you have the "key" for that nut or you won't be able to check the torque on that one.
