Since I've got my dash apart I've been looking at the silver (aluminum) gauge cluster bezel trim that goes around the individual gauges and I've seen prices ranging from $75 to twice that much. Any idea why? Is there a difference in quality from the different sources? Any tips from those who have installed them?
A buddy of mine installed them per instructions and they fell off. The glue held fine but the paint on the inner trim of the IPC is the problem, it falls off easily. He ended up running a bead the whole length of the trim rings and they've stuck since.
I second the painting idea, damn cheap and easily done! I've heard the best paint pen to use is .... crap! It's a Krylon metal flake something or other!

Difference in price is many times the different Corvette Tax included
Many of us installed the metal ones years ago - and have never had a problem (on my '99 they have been on since '00).
For some reason I feel that a part of the 'problems' some have had is the preparation work - or the curing time not being done correctly
As to paint - it looks nice - in a picture which is one dimensional.
Having seen both (painted and installed), IMO the installed ones look better.
Hmmmmm never hear that before, I got mine from Eckler's and never had a problem, this may be a case of perhaps you get what you pay for, as you know by now while this mod. is pretty straight foward it's really a pain in the butt to do, I think I'd lean toward the (should be ) better metal ones as I would not want to do that whole thing over again,
LAPD $140. VETTE SHOP $75. The LAPD ones do say that they are anodized so maybe that's the difference in price. I'd just like to know if I'm comparing prices for the same product.
jackj I like the carbon fiber look surround. Is that the one from Vette Essentials?
My 04 seems to already have raised bezels, which are black..do these go over the existing bezels or are these for model years that dont have a raised bezel around the gauges?
They are an aluminum trim ring that goes over the raised edge of the gauges. It gives them a little more flash. Chevrolet must agree because the C-6 has a similar look.
