Default C6 Z06 Shifter Question

For starters, I have an 04 Vette Coupe. So far I have purchased a Hurst shifter, installed it, was way to stiff and notchy so I sold it. A friend of mine with a Z06 recommended the Breathless shifter. So I found one, purchased it, installed it and it's smoother and not as stiff and notchy as the Hurst. I've changed out the springs and got it to where it's comfortable. Reverse isn't to big a deal. But I'm still looking for something better.

I've been reading alot about the C6 Z06 shifter. Is this shifter as good as they say ? Is it worth the money ? It's basically the same price as an aftermarket.

Any help or recommendations on the C6 Z06 shifter would be appreciated.

That's what I replaced my BPP with. It's better in some ways, and worse in others. The throw is longer, but quite a bit less notchy. I don't like the fact you can't use multiple thread-on ***** without modifying it. My stock boot won't work now because it's shorter, and has to clear the screw that retains the ****. It's incredibly easy to get into reverse, or any other gear for that matter, but it's not as precise as the BPP. I've already done the A-V shift mod, BTW. If I was to make a guess for the next shifter to try, it'd be either the MTI, or the improved B&M.

I like it. I think it was the first thing that I changed when I bought my car. The throws aren't quite as short as the Hurst or B&M, but they are much shorter than a stock C5 shifter and very smooth.

I did not care for the C6Z shifter. Too soft for me and too much play. It is physically a little shorter than the C5Z shifter, but the shifts themselves felt very close. I like the short notchy feel so I know it is in gear. I'm using the Kirban with a C6Z **** and love it. Getting into reverse and 6th was a little tricky at first, but it got much easier after about 5-6 trips.

Most people love the C6Z shifter, so it is worth a shot. You can always sell it if you dont like it.

So you're saying to try the MTI or the B&M (45044) before I commit to buy the C6 shifter, right ?

Well it looks like I'm left with the B&M as MTI is not making the 6-shooter any longer.

I've had several shifters and I love the C6 Z06 shifter the best. Do a search on this subject and you can make your determination after reading all the post on it. Then buy and install it. You'll be pleased.

I've had the B&M and the Hurst. Both were too notchy for my liking.

I replaced my stocker with an 2007 C6Z shifter and while it was much nicer than stock, it wasn't for me. The shifts were very smooth, but the throws still weren't short enough. My driving style is aggressive so i perfer a more stiff/notchy/precise shifter.

IMO the C6Z shifter would be great for daily driving

I'll try to answer all your questions that I remember... With the C6Z ;you DO have to modify, or replace your boot. As for myself, I don't have enough time with it to tell if it's going to be my last shifter change. I've had to replace my heads, and decided to make other mods while the car was out of commission, and haven't put more than 200 miles on the car since last fall. I DO like it so far, but like I tried to say, it's not perfect, but is there really a perfect shifter with an internal rail type T-56? This ain't the 'ol days of Hurst Competition+, and Muncie M-21s. I could powershift my old Camaro with the yard-long throws, and stock Muncie shifter better than I can the new trans.

To me, the question "Is this shifter as good as they say ? Is it worth the money ?" is kinda like asking "Which are better .... blondes or brunettes??"

It is an individual choice. Some like "notchy" short throws, some like a "smoother" feel, and some like to feel that they are stirring warm butter.

To each his own (and you will have to pry my Hurst from my cold dead fingers ...)

Well for starters I like both blondes and brunettes !!

And I don't think I'd like "stirring warm butter".

So all in all, looks like I'm looking for the "smoother" feel.

As for....
