Default Underdive Pully? Pros and Cons?

I'm thinking of adding an Underdrive pully which will give me 7-10 hp but...what about battery discharge? what about overheating?

Anybody have any experience with Underdrive pullys?? Chime in

Good to do if you are already swapping a cam. By itself though... is it worth the effort?

I installed one last september (Powerbond/SLP) with my headers and other stuff. Noticed absolutely no abnormal effects at all.

no issues with a pulley. but its not worth it by itself. get a cam with it.

Sure it is..better throttle response...the engine is freed up a bit...I cant vouch for the HP gain..but Im thinking 7-10 is optimistic..and it not all that hard or expensive..it is more "convenient" when doing a cam swap..but what the hell

I think the reason he said not worth it is because it is not an easy thing to swap out. I did mine when I got my cam installed and have had no issues. Now would I have done it by itself, no way.

Yeah I read that,,,and it may be that from my Camaro experience but it aint all that hard....its one bolt and a puller....unscrwew bolt...grab on with puller...ratchet off...while your doing that you've got the APS in the oven on low....pull the ASP out stick it on the shaft...using the old bolt and a spacer to push it on..once on..pull old bolt out and toss...insert new bolt and torque to specs

Its all in the tools or the wallet!

A friend of mine paided $90 to have a shop do his...took the guy less than an hour....Corvette tax and the engine compartment hood may make it a bit more difficult and costly

Lot harder to do then a Camero. The steering has to be loosened and you usually have to use an extended bolt to start the new pulley on as you can strip the crank with the old bolt as you need about 1/2" longer one. Also pinning the crank is highly recommended.

I installed a 25% Powerbond pulley when I did my head/cam swap and have had no issues and I am also running a 500 watt JL Audio amp.

Well, thanks everyone. Yes, I am planning to do add the underdrive pully as part of a cam install so it'll all be done at once.

Thanks again forum guys!

I am running a 2000w amp on my underdrive pulley and I still don't have any trouble.

The UD pulley is alot harder to do on the vette than on a camaro because of the steering rack.

Since there is no information in your profile re transmission in your Vette, be aware:

If you have an A4, expect MINIMAL SOP or real, measurable benefits.

If you have a MN6 or MN12, unless you have a cam (not the smallest available ) you'll have no appreciable improvements.
