Ok I'm ashamed to admit this but when I was much younger almost 10 years ago my female friend had a cavalier and she had a messed up hubcap. I liked her alot and wanted to get down her pants, so one day I tried to "get" her a new hubcap. I found the same car and the mall and tried to steal it. Except, there was a locking lug for the hubcap. I'm sure I could have defeated it have I tried, but I just said forget about it and bought her one.
Moral of the story, I use lug locks. You're right its not gonna stop everyone, however if it increases the odds of you running into some inexperienced juvenile deliquent who will skip over your car by simply looking at it and saying "hey he has locks, next car".
I also lock my doors, use an alarm and have dark tinted glass.
Us people in Newyork always have locking nuts, It is very easy for you to go shopping and come back to find u just got a nice set of milk crates where your ccw's used to be, Hopefully you dont need them but ive got them on both my cars with custom wheels
At least they use milk crates! I came out one morning to find my Fiat Spyder with the brake rotors sitting on the asphalt. Besides my newfound shortage of wheels and tires, it was just tons o' fun trying to get some kind of jack under that thing.
Years ago I had locking lugs and came out after a movie to find I was missing wheels & tires. Since then have found out how easy it is to "get past" lockers. At home my car is in a locked/alarmed garage.
On the road I TRY to get good/ close /safe parking spots, but if they want em their going to get em.
On my firebird, I had locking lug nuts that were almost as wide as the hole in the wheel. You had to put the key inside the lock and turn... Well, the key stripped the lock and the 'wheel shop' lug nut removers wouldnt fit around them because there wasn't enough space. I had to have a wrecking company weld a bolt to the lug nut and turn it the bolt to take it off. While doing this the shop accidently got weld on the wheels (brand new 18" chromies) and messed them up. I don't use locking lugs anymore because of that!
I brought a vette and a few months later wanted to remove the wheels to strip the clearcoat on them and polish them. I found that they had locks on them and I had no key. Well it took me about 10 seconds each to hammer a socket into them and unscrew them. Those locks are useless.
