This is the low budget Sound Reduction Plan
Go to Wally World and buy yourself a King Size Mattress Pad, you know the ones with the cones sticking up, and Cut It Like You Stole It.
Go buy the cans of foaming insulation and just fill up the 3 compartments...or better yet, just fill up the whole back end of the car with it. That should stop some of the noise.
Anyone try the insulation after trying the towel trick? What was your comparison?
i had used the towels first it helped some but when i put the sound deading material in a mojor sound reduction it was so noise free it scared me i am serious.
I can't believe no one commented on using a Vette to haul insulation batts around to begin with. So....... you might be a redneck if you use your sports car to haul building materials

OR your sports car may be a daily driver that you enjoy so much that you use it ALL THE TIME (no aplogies to those with Garage Queen Cars).
i just tried this.. i pulled the carpet in the truck.. and layed some insulation down all around and just put all the carpet back.. then put some isulation in the wells.. honestly... the is REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY quiet now.. maybe like 70% of the noise/exhaust sound is GONE!!

I did the Frost King mod on my 02 vert mn-6 over a year ago and it really made a big difference.

I also did Mike's Frost King and it made a big difference. I also did the insulation in the rear compartments and it lowered my cabin noise level even further.
When my 98 was new I hated all the noise from the runflats so i took a heavy rubber mat from the back of a pickup ,short bed and cut the length to fit the cargo area . Put it under the carpet, you won't belive the differance.
I used to work in paint deparment in OSH yrs ago. We have spray paint, which was like a paint, but when dried, it became a thin layer of Rubber. You could use it on stairs for Non-slip affect, or under the cars for blocking road noise, and also protect little rocks hitting the bottom of the wheels wells. I wonder if anyone's tried that product. Don't remember the name, but I'm sure you can still get it in Home Depot, OSH, or other hardware stores.....
Now, the other question is.... WHAT noise deadning product can we easily buy from Home depot and stuff it in the car for a decent affect. I'm (like some here) not very knowledgable about such products; so a little detail or part number would help.
Thanks.. amazing stuff huh... Best things in life are..... (you know the rest - cheap )
Great idea I'm gonna give it a shot this weekend. Just worried about breathing in all those fibers.
Yeah the fiberglass deadning meterial sounds cheap and like a good mod for noise reduction. As for the fibers flying off, how about we put a thin cotton towel around it, or wrap it in one, then stick it in there. Then put something like the mentioned "foam" or similar on TOP of it. Eventually, we close the lid on it. Think that'll work? ...
I just wanted to get your thoughts. This is for a coupe, by the way - After reading everyone's posts, I went ahead and went to home depot. A worker there said what might work better than fiberglass insulation is the stuff from a can ... "Great Stuff" is what it is called. I had enough to fill 3/4ths of the left and right compartments, and just stuffed blankets and sheets in the middle section.
After driving, I still didn't notice any difference (*maybe* a very slight difference ... maybe). Did I just mess up? Should I go for the cone foam instead? Is it because I have a coupe? I'd love to hear what those of you having done it have to say. Thanks!
