I thouroughly enjoyed reading your Viper vs. Z06 squabbles. I have also driven both cars. If you are just comparing which is the better car for drag racing then the obvious winner is the Viper. BUT....the Z was not designed for pure drag racing and the Viper was. The Z kicks the snot out of the Viper in EVERY OTHER category. Handling, ergonomics, braking, etc. etc. The Viper is uncomfortable, has very little ammenities, bakes your feet like a pot roast, and handles like a tub on roller skates. Im sorry but us Vette lovers have nothing to worry about when comparing the two cars and we pay 30K less!!!!
Now we may have to worry a little about the next generation Viper comming out...although I dont like the looks as much as the current version, I have heard that it is more like the Vette in comfort and handling and dont forget about those little 500 ponies!!!!
Alas, we are comparing vehicles in two different markets. If the General would let loose with an 80K supercar I am CERTAIN it would stomp anything Crapslyer could ever produce in the same category!!!! :yesnod:

Humm... well first the Viper was NOT made to drag race. It has an IRS just like the Vette which is terrible for drag racing. The F-body and Mustang are much better at the 1/4 than either the Viper or Vette. They will often have 1/2 to 1 sec better ET with the exact same MPH as the Vette/Viper which tells you they hook up much better.
The Viper was made for a large road course 2-3 miles. On a large road course the Vette will get torn a new one by the Viper. On a smaller track or AutoX the Vette may win or it will be real close. Of course the driver has alot to do with the outcome. I'm sure there are many more people here that have more knowledge about such things than me, so chime in if you want.
Great I see we are all still at it and having a good teeth kicking time. I was still wondering if anyone had a viper in the Atlanta area that wanted to race.. On thing I would like to add is the Viper as I stated is a fast car. Now for the money you spend on the car and the Monster truck gas bill you pay to drive it I will stay with what I have. The Vette is a more all around car end of story but I'll tell ya a big block is the best feeling when you mash the gas, damn torque is a great thing.
Have passed Viper GTS Coupes in numerous track events at Road Atlanta, even in my NSX. I drove a friends GTS all weekend in CA, in the Malibu canyons. It is NOT an intuitive car to drive, in that it does not tell you where the limits are. Have seen more Vipers crash at Road Atlanta than any other type of car. Z06 is an easy car to drive fast. Very adjustable handling. Handling feel and braking make the Vette much faster on a road course for all but the most experienced drivers. Drag racing is not a good measure of a car's overall ability.
To be fast, you need high torque, and high HP (plus low weight & good gearing). At low RPMs most engines make more torque, which is needed to "push the car" forward. When torque runs out, you need HP to "pull the car." As I read in one book on engines, HP and torque are like the inverse of each other. One without the other makes it much harder to go fast across the entire rev range.
My daugters Junior..the Purple Haze car that was at Bradenton runs 7.76-7.79 60' and 8.37 1/8 mile. Thats with a single cylinder 9,000 rpm alcohol burning briggs & stratton!
:yesnod:
Those dog gone JR Dragsters can really scoot. I love to watch them run. Most people shrug them off while watching them in the bleachers but they don't pay attention to the 1/8 mile times because we have a 1/4 mile track.
