Not looking to cause a flame, just musing.

icons and the like, which is perfectly legitimate and could apply to lots of mods, including wheels, exhaust, etc. Obviously, it's in the perception of the individual what looks good. Frankly, I think people here get a little too sensitive when it comes to criticism. If you post a picture of it, asking for opinions, then be prepared to get negative opinions. Another case in point would be those glass-blown shift *****...
Obviously, they require a lot of talent and patience to craft, but if you paid me a million dollars to put one in my car, I'd put one in my car, pocket the money, and then SELL the damn car because I think they're hideous! That poster got all offended and started making inappropriate personal attacks in response to people not liking her "art." Bottom line, if you don't want people's opinions, don't ask for them. If you want sycophantic responses, you're not going to get them from me or most people on this forum. I'll give my honest opinion, SINCE YOU ASKED, and if you don't like it, you can disregard it. But I don't expect to personally attacked because I happen to have different (and better
) taste than you. My $.02.

...but if you own a ride it's yours, do what you want to it. That you like it is what counts.

Anyone who will cut down an American icon (or tries to mutate her into something it WE THINK it should not be) like the Corvette or Harley Davidson or Jeep (I had to get the Jeep in their - I been waiting for two years, ha ha) has to expect to get some flack - but here in lies the problem - this Young man did not realize what an icon we have and how passion most people are over the Corvette vehicle even if they don’t own one. It is our job to teach the young folk (young folk – when did I start sounding so old? I won’t turn 40 till next month!) How important Icons are and what it means to be an American and proud to own American Icons!
Another thing I think that burned some CF members up is this poster appears to not even own a corvette. It may be wishful on his part but if you going to wish for something why totally change the car so it don’t like it the way it was originally? I wished for a Corvette when I was in my teens and 20’s but I did not want to change a thing about the car (could not afford too). So I settled for a Celica and then a Supra (two great cars – all I could afford at the time and got me through college) and just waited my time until I could own American Icon. Now I am living the dream I have the TWO biggest American Icon in my garage!
This is all just MY opinion and im not trying to start anything

When confronted with the first response, the TO (thread originator) went off the deep end.
The issue was really mute after it was posted that there was not a C6-C5 body conversion kit, but the TO was not ready, or willing to accept this.
Since his response(s) were not well thought out - others jumped into the fray (myself included
) in an attempt to bring the matter to a close - but still the TO wouldn't let it go.Much of this was due to (more than likely) his/her noOb situation.
As to your attempt to make parallels between the TO's question/desire to what many CF members desire in 'changing' their C5's - the question is irrelevant.
"Changing" things that are possible is a long way from changing things that are not possible (or at a minimum not possible at a realistic cost such as the TO asked).
IMO if a majority of ppl don't like the idea then perhaps u should re-consider doing the mod.
Other wise do what u want.

The c5 does not look Euro – I cannot name one single European car that even looks like a c5 (I cannot even recall ANY European car with pop up head light in the last 10 years or one with the “big butt” look). But the c6 has more of a euro flare. The nose (grill and headlight) looks very similar to some of the early 2000’s Ferrari models and two different magazines I read when the c6 was released were saying GM wanted to expand the vettes appeal abroad so they shortened + made it more narrow for the small European roads and tastes plus went to exposed HID headlights.
To each his own. IMO if you’re going to spend $14,000 + then buy a car you at least like. Otherwise buy a cheaper car and put $10K into it.
We all have said things in the past (especially when we were young) that we regret saying. This new member is learning (heck I learn something every day – mostly on the CF) and I just hope he understands what we were trying to convey to him.
response, yet look at all the people who put C6 wheels on their C5. Or Z06 grilles/wheels/bake vents on their standard coupes/FRCs. Or C5R headlight kits. Paint the tail black... whatever. All the mods are just degrees of making the car a little more unique IN THE WAY THE OWNER LIKES IT. And also, I think that when people ask for opinions they need to be ready to hear from people who don't like their mods. After all, a forum is supposed to be about opinions... let's share 'em!

, then so be it. Maybe they will think twice. At least they will know what to expect from 'vette owners once the mod is done. That thread was a perfect example. If he wanted to have the first C6 bodied C5, that's one thing. But he wanted to do it because he can't afford a C6 and hates the C5! If we were all nice to him, he might make a big mistake and actually try it!
Some people are too sensitive about negative comments. If nothing else, they are more fun to read!
