Default export 99 questions

hi, i'm new to this forum as i just acquired a 1999 hatchback from a german guy in florida. this car was originally bought in germany and has stuff on it i haven't seen on other c5's. it spent 24000 miles of its life in germany, then was shipped here. i have the manifest in my possession. if this guy never had his car on the audobon, i'd be surprised. (not that i care. the car is awesome!) any way, i was wondering if anyone knows what is different on export c5's than what we get here. also this is my first corvette and almost didn't happen until i checked insurance prices (unbelievably low), fuel mileage (unbelievably high 25-27 actual) and found this deal (31000 miles-$20000) if any one knows anything about export c5's please share your secrets. thanks all.
looking forward to being a member of your forum.

Welcome!

Sounds interesting! What kind of "stuff" does it have that other domestic C5's don't have? Any pics?

as far as i've noticed it has: tow hooks front and rear.
turn signal indicators behind front wheels.
out side rear taillights have amber crescents i bottom half. inboard has reverse light crescents. plate area wide enough for euro plate. owners manual in german. i don't know if any of this is export stuff or optional. oh, also spot lights and fog lights in front grille opening. i'll post pics when i get a good opportunity as i just brought it home 2-26-07.

You might also have white DRLs or no DRLs? I have read posts here from owners of domestic C5s who need to remove the DRLs for driving in the EU.

The export C5 has white sidelights in the fog light housing, T84 headlights with the dual filament bulbs, side indicators and a different rear end (fog lights in the bumper and red over ambers and red over clear in the T/S clusters.

German C5s have to have the DRLs inhibited with the DRL relay mod.

I guess almost all the differences have already been mentioned above.. Also, ALL the lights, windshield and seat belts have been changed. Here are some pics of my export C5. You can see most of the "mods" in the pics

Rear lights, wider license plate area

Turn signal indicators

Tow hook

300 kph speedo

FinnZ06

Can you get a Vanity Plate in your country?

If so - you would be the only member that has one - and included on the Vanity Plate Post that is kept for the Forum Members

BTW - excellent looking Vette

No, its one of those obscure Euro regs.

Mine doesn't have one but the Brit authorities turna blind eye for an import. For type approval though, they insisted one was fitted so all the Euro models have it.

Export C5s have different wheels also (they MAY be the magnesium wheels).

I assume everyone knows that the export 300 mph speedometer was really done to get 300 kph, 200 kph doesn't go high enough for a C5.

Not a problem in UK

We're still schizophrenic. We're supposedly metric but all the road signs are still in MPH
