Allright I apologize in advance for possible blasphemy, but I am wondering if anyone has ever converted a Z06 over to an automatic transmission? My problem is I love the look of the bodystyle on the Z06 but don't think my older knees will stand up to constant clutch use. Thanks in advance for any input you might have.
Check in the F/I section. you will see a few guys have done this. Talk with Rodney at RPM. He is the only one that i know that does this and is the one you want to go to for anything trans related.
probably be easier to Z06-ize a 99 or 00 A4 FRC coupe
I have considered that. The 99-00 FRC is my alltime favorite bodystyle, but it seems to be really hard to find one in really good original condition with low miles. Thanks.

I don't think any FRC's were made with an A4. If I remember correctly all are 6 spd and Z51. Regular coupes aren't so bad are they? On the bright side the top comes off

In one of my issues of Corvette magazine I remember seeing one of the driving schools has Z06s and they claim they have automatics available. So it has to be done probably not by them at the school. What about paddle shifters???
I've seen a 2003 Z06 having an A4 being installed in it. It's a huge job but sure can be done.
This particular one already had a darton sleeved 427 in it. I guess the owner had plenty of disposible income to be able to afford to have the 6 speed swaped out for the automatic.
I remember the shop had a lot of trouble finding the proper wiring harness to make it come together. The car was completely gutted then reassembled just to install the auto. trans.
I'm sure it was pretty cool to drive when it was finished.
Seen a few converted but they spent most of their time at the drag strip.
Sell the Z and get yourself a nice Vert with an automatic if you want it to handle like the Z, coilovers and some nice sway bars and you will drive circles around your Z
Check out the April Corvette Trader. There is an article on Page 70 about a highly modded ZO6 with auto. Currently a powerglide, before that the owner had replaced the six speed with an A4.
