This could be the start of a new trend in this country. I have heard of several states considering this, but it is now proposed for a vote in Florida. By Assoc. Press

Radar detectors would be prohibited in Florida under a bill filed by a Florida lawmaker and former sheriff. The proposal, introduced by state Senator Steve Oelrich, would make it illegal to use a radar detector. But the measure would make using one a secondary, non-criminal traffic violation. That means that law enforcement officers could not stop you just because you have a radar detector in your car.If an officer pulls you over for another traffic violation and they discover a radar detector, they can then issue you a ticket. The legislation has the support of the Florida Highway Patrol, which says radar detectors have no other purpose than to help speeders avoid traffic tickets.
IMHO, if the government has the ability to watch you i.e. radar. You have the right to know you are being watched. They used to post signs, "This road is patrolled using radar" or something like that.
It becoming less of an issue as more police are now using laser. Still its a lame law, and Fla. will be added to Va. and D.C. as the only places they are illegal.

I love the part about it being a secondary violation. That is government's way of weaning the people on the law. If it passes, I'm sure a few years down the road some legislater will write a bill to make it a primary violation. That is what they did with seatblets....seems seatbelt violations are now primary in most jurisdictions now.
I watched the Florida gubernatorial debates and I live in WASHINGTON STATE, there were CLEAR choises and GOOD questions and when the scumbags tried to NOT answer the questions the moderator (Criss Matthews) just asked POINT BLANK "Did you take money from the Insurance industry???? and he made them all answer!
The choices were very clear and once AGAIN, the very predictable electorate of Florida, made the WRONG choice but he will make them feel soooo self righteous and for most there it will be enough. Ill bet that less than 1% even watched the debates as there were no one eating worms or getting thrown off the Island or singing really bad. At the young age of 16 whining about "mans inhumanity to man my mother told me,...."Stop sniveling this is AMERICA,....You get the government you deserve"

I was headed for Florida (I have friends and family scattered all over Florida) but that was a few years ago. It's my opinion that politics and weather has done irreparable damage to the State and I hope I have enough time left to see it recover.

Yeah, I was thinking how damaging our weather is while I watched you guys shoveling snow on the news. No 'canes this season, either. As for the crooks, they've been in control of the local politics since the beginning.

No surprise that the Florida Highway Patrol supports making radar detectors illegal. Not many LEO agencies would favor their use. Just hope the Missouri legislature doesn't get the idea and follow suit.
