Default Day 1 notes, questions, and issues

So I'm a new Z06 owner as I mentioned in my other thread.
First things first: WOW! What a machine! The power, look, and handling are simply awesome. It literally gives me butterflies each time I drive it, and I'm definitely "walking on eggshells" because it's downright scary, but I could hardly be happier.

The drive home was smoothe and I was getting almost 28MPG at a 72mph cruise. I didn't really open her up since I had no tag, but tested the acceleration once or twice.

Issues:
The cigarette lighter doesn't work, which was disappointing for my radar detector and car charger. I learned when I got home that there's a second in the center console, but the primary one does not work. I checked the fuses today and they're okay. I am wondering if it got disconnected with the Alpine head unit install and was never reconnected, or if its power was routed to the head unit or something.

Second, the windows both go up and down nicely, but the passenger side window leaked a bit during a storm on the way home. May have to replace the seals or make sure the window is going up all the way (which it appears to be).

Third, about 3/5 of the way home, the CEL came on and my heart sunk. Turns out it is a P0410 "Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction" which I'm about to run CF searches on and see what I can do about it.

Fourth, the shifter has a fairly prominent whine. I don't know if this is because of the Exedy clutch (dual disc) or the Hurst shifter, but it's quite noticeable. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. The clutch will take some getting used to. This is obviously no '93 Honda or pickup with a forgiving clutch. I've been on an Auto '97 Z28 Camaro for the past 6 years, so I'm having to re-learn Manual transmission (for the record, it's pretty embarassing to stall in a 405hp vette; I don't recommend it).

The road noise is pretty loud too. I may get a partition, but don't want to squelch the audio coming from the sub... any experience with this?

My budget is limited after this big purchase, so things like CAI are a few months down the road, if at all, but I appreciate any advice you guys can give.

It's pretty easy to accidently disconnect the cig lighter when removing the surround for a radio install. It's pretty easy to get the surround out and check.

There's an adjustment that can be made on the window, not sure off hand how, but I've read about it before. Might be worth trying first before replacing any seals.

I've only gotten the 0410 code since I've added headers. Try resetting the code and see if it comes back up again? Maybe someone will chime in with a better answer.

The Hurst shifter is known to be loud. Might consider the MTI six shooter or the c6 shifter.

Get a partition. The low frequency of the bass won't be affected that much. The partition definitely helps cut down on the noise.

Enjoy it! I've got an 03 EB Z06 too! I got it with 2600 miles on it last may and am about where you are at now mileage wise.

I agree it is fairly easy to disconnect the cigarette lighter and just about everything on the console. I had to go back in a second time after installing a B&M Ripper precision shifter. The Hurst and most aftermarket shifters will whine and make more noise than the stocker, since they don't have the rubber silencer on them.

The air injection system usually the valves will go bad, but it will do no harm to the car per se, just get it worked out before you have to smog it. I also agree the partition helps, but since getting my 03 Z06 I tend to forget to turn up or turn on the radio because I having too much fun listening to the car. I am sure that GM could have deleted the radio and I would never have noticed. Needless to say with your aftermarket system like it was mentioned a partition will not have much effect on the bass.

Now get out drive and enjoy that beauty!

I'm one step ahead of you.
I did my search like a good new guy and found that thread.
Thanks SO much for taking the time to put that in there.
I cleared the code this evening. If it comes back, I will try the carb cleaner + WD40 trick and see if that helps.
If that doesn't work, I'll be back for the next step.
Thanks again for the info and breaking it down for folks like me.

I reset the code last night. Drove to work (15 mi) this morning and home this afternoon. No CEL this morning, but it came back on about half way on the trip home. So I'll be trying BC's cleaning method this weekend most likely.

The shifter I can probably get used to. We'll see, but thanks for the thread on the "dual boot" to quiet it down a bit.

I'm nervous about getting to the cig lighter. I'm sure it'll be cake once I've done it, but having never tried, I don't want to pull out when I should pull down and snap something expensive
