You seem to be forgetting that not every buyer of '04 Corvettes, made their purchase at years end.
Some had to pay full sticker price for the priviledge of owning a new Vette.
Is that not something to be taking into consideration when checking the prices of used '04 Vettes and not the simple fact that during the end of the model run, some were sold off at tremendous discounts?
Just because you, or anyone else paid a premium way back when for a new 04 does not come into consideration setting todays value of a used 04. I have two houses for sale that I paid too much for some items that I cannot recoup those inflated costs from one to two years ago. It's called reality, as much as it may hurt.
Very good friend of mine who already owns a 2300 mile 78 anniversary & a beutiful 65 convertable, just bought a 04 Z06 with 3500 miles on it for 36.6. The original asking price at the Chevy dealer was 41k.
I don't see what the price most folks actually paid for a 2004 has anything to do with it. A 2004 is probably the most desireable C5 to have since it is the newest. If you bought at a discount and sell at a premium (a few bucks based on year/mileage) then you have done better financially than folks who bought the other years. I don't think anyone who paid a premium on a 97 would be able to get even one cent of that back selling today.
However, 40k for a 2004 is on the high side. Dealer can ASK for anything though.
On my walk Saturday I stopped by the Chevrolet dealer. He had a 2004 FRC sticking out on the sidewalk. It is a Spiral Gray M6. Great paint, looks good. I couldn't get a look at the mileage though. Price $40,000.00. Can this be right??
Not too far off. Kelly Blue Book, www.kbb.com, shows the dealer retail price for an '04 Z06 to be $37,000. That is figuring 47,000 miles. If extreamely low miles then might be $40,000. But remember that is asking price, not selling price.
This was NOT a Z06 unless it has been re-painted, since (as already stated above), the Spiral Gray was not available on the Z06, just the coupes and verts. Even a completely loaded 1SB (HUD, memory, etc) with very low miles should bring $34-35K tops. FWIW, when GM offered the 0% interest on '07 Vettes a few weeks ago, I went to my guy and asked what they would give me for mine. $31,500 trade-in was the offer ('04 A4 13K miles, 1SB).

It's a DEALER price fellas!! Everybody knows the advertised price is not what they're going to sell it for. Rule of thumb is you can deal down at least 10% maybe more. So, you can get that car for $36K maybe less.
