On my walk Saturday I stopped by the Chevrolet dealer. He had a 2004 FRC sticking out on the sidewalk. It is a Spiral Gray M6. Great paint, looks good. I couldn't get a look at the mileage though. Price $40,000.00. Can this be right??

The FRC (actually, Z06) never came in spiral grey. Later in the year, Z06's were going for ~$45k after rebates. Coupes could be found in the mid to high 30's. It's definitely over-priced.

If it is an '04 - it would be a Z06, which is the same body style as the FRC. The FRC non-Z06 was '99 and '00. In those years, there was no MSGM - that color came out in '03 and was available on coupes and convertibles only through '04.
So maybe what you saw was an '04 coupe in MSGM, and no matter what the mileage was - even if it was ultra low - $40K is too much money. Even a Z06 with ultra low miles won't command that kind of money. Low mid $30's maybe.

You seem to be forgetting that not every buyer of '04 Corvettes, made their purchase at years end.
Some had to pay full sticker price for the priviledge of owning a new Vette.
Is that not something to be taking into consideration when checking the prices of used '04 Vettes and not the simple fact that during the end of the model run, some were sold off at tremendous discounts?
I agree with the others here. I have a loaded '04 coupe, and there's no way it would fetch $40K. Maybe the dealership's plan it to start at 40 and let the buyer talk them down to 34-35 -- the stealership would still bank mucho green with that transaction.
According to the Black Book the ZO6 did not come in the Spiral Grey color in either 2003 or 2004. So what is it, a repaint or special order? I'm going by tommorrow, I'll check some more. My guess was $32-34,000.00.

Hmmm?? For $47K, they better buy me flowers and promise to call me in the morning!

Remember, Mike is in CA. Dealers ask crazy $$ for cars here, and PEOPLE PAY IT!! The local Chevy superstore in Roseville, Ca has over 80 vettes, all can be yours with a $10-$15K surcharge. Thats right, $65-$70K for a new 07 coupe, at least thats the number you start from. Want a Z06? Start at $125K and go from there.
Want a Dodge Charger SRT8? Add $20K to the $40K sticker. They sold that one, too!

Almost correct - however, the C6's were known to be an '05 year model when the ''04's were released.
GM attempted to address this by the release of the Commemorative Editions (LMB's), but were less than successful.
Thus, almost from the first day of '04 availability the prices were MSRP, and/or discounted.
Today one can get a new C6 (coupe) for $39,995 - why? Because the C6's are not selling, possibly because there is a new engine (HP) coming
