I was doing some research on the forums and the one thread I found was very informative, but I just want to be sure before I make a purchase. I currently have the Monster FM transmitter, but the attenna looks so stupid when it's up and the sound quality can vary a little at times.
So I just wanted to know if I went with the "Ipod2car GM-specific" (PXHGM2) is this all I would need?
I saw in a thread I did some research on that another wire may be needed? It is the "GMH20T". I DON'T have a 12 disc changer, I just have the factory headunit that allows ONE CD. So I would need this additional harness right?
Huh? I'm saying with an FM transmitter, the Ipod plays thru the FM radio, therefore the antenna must be raised for the radio to work. I am saying that it looks so stupid when you have the 20'' antenna sticking up in the back of the car.
That is one of the reasons I want a direct connect, and not an FM transmitter, because all I really listen to is my Ipod anyway, the radio is obsolete for me these days.
OK I understand now. You are going to disconnect the power to the antenna motor and never use the FM radio. My question was What stops the antenna from going up? The antenna goes up anytime you turn on the HU regardless of whether or not you are using FM radio. When I read your first post I was thinking that using an Ipod won't stop your antenna from going up unless you cut power to the antenna or install a switch.
I just bought the Ipod2car basic unit and the PXHGM4 adapter.
I have a Z06 (no 12 disk changer). The PXHGM4 adapter plugs directly into the back of your headunit.

Wow I'm retarded, I didn't even realize that. It does come up regardless of using the radio or not. Hmm... well I guess I will be disconecting the power to the antenna afterall... and just use the Ipod, because I hate when its up.
Edit: Actually now that I think of it, I think it does only come up with the radio. Because I remember putting a CD in sometimes to keep the stupid thing down haha.

So all I would need is the Ipod2car and this adapter? I don't need the GM20T if I get the PXHGM4?
From Crutchfield's site:
"The PXHGM4 adapter allows you to connect the iPod2car universal adapter directly to the CD changer input on your Chevrolet Corvette factory stereo for a clean, clutter-free installation."
I bought the GM20T, as I had already purchased the GM-spedific kit.
I also added a button to disconnect the FM antenna motor signal, so the antenna remains down when listening the ipod or cd, as it should. The switch simply interrupts the signal from the radio to the power antenna.
Here is what I did, I did have a 12 disc changer, but after removing my buddies ZO6 radio, there was nothing different, but I can tell you this...my setup works great.
Barry, from what I have been reading though, you don't need all of that? Why did you use the cables you used?
I am under the impression that you would need a harness for the HU and something to play the ipod such as: ipod2car or the GMAUX-10

That's a nice setup Micah, but you cannot control the Ipod thru the factory HU right? I am looking for a way I can hide the Ipod like you did, except be able to control the Ipod from the factory HU instead of the Ipod itself.
I just went through this and got my ipod2car working yesterday.
The PXHGM2 cable requires you to have a CORHAR cable for the 12 disc changer. You would disconnect it from your 12 disc changer and connect it to the PXHGM2 which connects to the ipod2car which connects to the ipod.
Or, for those of us who don't have the CORHAR cd changer cable, use the PXHGM4 cable directly to the back of the Bose head unit. That's what I did. Works great!
Either way, you'll have some basic control of ff/rew next/prev from the stereo controls. You'll still have to use your ipod to select the playlist, etc.
I'm getting a lot of responses here, which is good. Great information, but it is starting to confuse me a little.
Please post the equipment I would need to:
Hardwire the Ipod to the HU, so that I can CONTROL the Ipod FROM the HU and not have to go to the Ipod to change songs!
Not to here, but the link I gave you at http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1553872918 shows the IPOD2CAR unit, the PHXGM1 & GMH20T cables with cable ends labelled, installation instructions, and my comment that controlling the ipod with the headunit is often finicky.
Yes, the IPOD2CAR is supposed to control the ipod; sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Others have had similar success.
The above instructions are a year old, there may be newer cables that supersede PHXGM1 & GMH20T.
