stalling when put in reverse

stalling when put in reverse
My girlfriend has a 2000 automatic, we live in the Boston area, I jump started the vehicle the other day because it had been sitting, when I went to put the vehicle in reverse it would stall, on the dash it stated something such as "service column lock"...any thoughts or comments of why or what this means....and why it may have stalled when put in reverse?

You have the service column lock problem. There are lots of posts on how to get it fixed. Its a warranty issue, that can be corrected a few different ways. Do a search, or look in the stickys section of the C5Tech forum. There should be a post about different methods to solve this issue.
