Default DFW column lock repair recommendation

where did you have your 6-speed column lock repair done and what did they do? Any problems and how long did it take? Would you recommend the dealer you took it to? thanks.

Moritz Chevy...twice. Yea, lock up twice since 2002 (two motors went out). They replace the little motor, they do not do a bypass.

I would recommend you stay as far away from any dealer as you can on this. This subject has been thrashed thoroughly here over the last several years.
Stop by 21st Century Musclecars or maybe LG Motorsports in your area and pick up a CLB (Column Lock Bypass). You can either install it yourself or ask them to do it for you. It eliminates any and all potential problems and does not require any steering wheel/column disassembly or removal. As a matter of fact the CLB could be installed while you wait.
HTH,
Robert

Forget the dealer "fix".

Purchase a CLB for one of the many Forum Vendors that sell same.

Remember - the dealer (GM) "fix" is intrusive to the computer set up, and for many this issue, and "fix" has left them stranded

If you don't want to do the CLB yourself - give 21st Century MC in Carrollton a call (972 417 7177)

Stay far far away from Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas. Pick up the CLB and call it a day my friend.

I notice you have been a member here since 2000...seems to me you would have read a few of the thousands of threads regarding this subject. Do not go to the dealer for any of the recalls, just get the CLB.

Hadley Chevrolet Madison,IN removed the column locking plate and reset the computer back to before the 2004 recall (that did not work) and have had no more trouble or codes. Been about a month and it is my DD and they did it on their dime.

Good idea to purchase this. I have it on mine but have not had the recall done.

If it doesn't sink through to forget the dealer - ....and you must go to a dealership, talk to Omer at Huffines, Plano. He's pretty sharp on the vettes....

In fact if you ever take your car to the Dealer (for anything), tell them that you have a private CLB installed and NOT to do the GM Recall.

And pray for not to be gone of every warranty!!!

I think that it is better not to say that to dealer because of nothing, they avoid warranty!

I took my '02 in for the rear axle seal replacement a couple of years ago and they wanted to do the recall but I refused it. They had me sign a statement saying I had refused the recall. BTW, I do have a CLB and strongly recommend them.

Just buy a column lock bypass, install it yourself (easy to do) and be done with it.
