Default Wrong Plug Wires!!!!! How important is the extra 1MM?

I took the advice of a few forum members and ordered some GM performance wires to put on my coupe. I ordered them from Summit Racing and they were supposed to be 8MM wires per the description. The wires came in and I installed them along with some new Bosch Platinum/Iridium Fusion plugs. Installing plugs really sucked by the way. Anyway, on the last plug I looked at the boot on the wire and in very small letters it said 7MM! I was so pissed. The box had the right part number as well as the shipping invoice but the wires were not right. I guess Delphi put the wrong wires in the right box. I called Summit and they said they would replace them with 8MM. I really do not want to pull them off and ship them back then wait for 2 weeks for them to come back.

My question is how much difference does it make going from 7 to 8mm? Is it worth the trouble, my brother said the main thing is the new wires and plugs not the extra MM. He said that the wires are so short you really will not lose much voltage. What are your opinions?

You bought 8mm so why not put 8mm's on?

Call them and do a big complaint! They should send you a set while you send yours back.

My MSD's have .03 Ohm's of resistance per wire, what are the GM performance wires getting? also test your stockers for a good comparison.

You might want to get the 8.5mm MSD wires instead if they don't get low resistance. Stockers were .330 per wire = MSD good upgrade!

As for plugs NGK TR55's are the order for the day!Excellent on my Vette and others too!

IMHO only!

Thanks,Matt

The GM Performance Parts wires ARE only 7MM. You can buy factory 8MM wires but they are twice the price. I sell several hundred sets of these per year and there are no problems with them. My opinion, keep them!

See signature of what I think. The one time investment of your time to swap out the 7mm for the ones you ordered will be worth it. Otherwise, you'll get aggravated every time you open the hood.

Are you sure? I had several forum members tell me they are running the GM performance wires in 8mm. And the summit racing site lists them as 8mm. The GM part #12495519. I am leaning toward keeping the 7mm. I have not heard anyone tell me that the extra 1mm will make any noticeable difference in power or fuel economy.

your fine, even the stockers have been used past the 700hp mark, no gains with wires
