I have bought a set of hoosier R6 for the track , but i would like to know if i can use the stock rims for this, with or without the tyre pressure sensors ? do i need another set of rims for the road or i can use the originals for both sets of tyres?
If you are going to track the car you will find it much easier to get another set of rims. Stock Z-06 rims are probably the best and lightest for the job.
Get a small utility trailer (4X6 from Walmart) and a hitch (Draw-tight) and take your Hoosiers wherever you go.
Thanks for the reply, I have the stock 2006 z06 with 275-35-18 front tyres and 325-30-19 back . I don't exactly know what the rim sizes are but they are the stock ones. As for the hoosiers heat cycles, how long will they last if I'm running four 15 minute sessions every 3 weeks under high temperatures.
Don't want to Hijack but are The Michelin Pilot sport Cups on par with hoosiers for track use? And they can be driven to the track, am I right?
The Michelin's are street legal .... they have a tread pattern. The Hoosier R6 are not street legal ... track only.
I doubt the Michelin tires on a par with the Hoosier tires, but then, as you know, for most of us it is the driver that makes the difference, not the equipment.
Mich sports cups have lots of grip, but take several laps to get heat into them for that grip. In the mean time they can be very slippery. You could drive them to and from the track again the tires will not have much grip and are measured in heat cycles not miles.
If you really need a tire to be driven to and from the track, my I suggest some Nittos or BFG KDW2s. Not as sticky as Hoosiers or Cup tires, but a double duty tire.
How many heat cycles? Normally 1-4 heat cycles the tires have the most grip. 5-15 the good grip and after 15 cycles the tires just about shot. Howver an R compound that is just about shot still has more grip then a Street tire, even if that street tire is Y or Z rated.
A heat cylce is each time that tire is used and up to oppertaing temperature. So if you drive to the track and stop a Mikky Ds for coffee then drive to the track that is TWO heat cycles.
Tread has nothing to do with grip. Tread is for moving water out from under the rubber surface.
unless your ubbberly wealthy and can drop $2,000 on a set of tires EACH TIME you go to the track, Maybe the KDW2 or the Nittos are more what your looking for...
